Come on!  It is highly illegal to distribute copyrighted materials.
This is the type of request I expect to see in the "warez" newsgroups,
not here.

We (Papyrus/Sierra) monitor all newsgroups and look for illegal
postings.  We will go to all extremes to protect our rights.  DO NOT
post copyrighted materials here or anywhere!

Since you have discontinued the IRC1 Track Pack and your
lincense to use the IMS track has expired and the converted
track was not created by you and it is not costing you any
money and having the IMS track available for NASCAR only
enhances the appeal of NASCAR racing, why do you care?

Ed,
This is really annoying. You guys put out of sale one of your products that you
know most people love (the Indy track pack) and do NOTHING to help us to get this
track. Could you just give a better idea on how to get the Indy track ??

Thanks,
Arturo

OK, first of all, let's not kid each other here, gang.  The only
reason the IMS track pack is suddenly so popular is because someone
came up with a conversion program that lets people use it in ICR II &
NCR.  We do not have the license to use it with these titles.

Unto itself, the IMS track pack was not a good selling product. We
took it out of production because there wa no demand for it.  Now
there is.  Hmmmm... I wonder why?

There is still some inventory of the IMS track pack around.  We were
selling it off through our direct sales but ran out a couple of weeks
ago.  Some people have found it in the discount bin at software
stores.  I just saw a posting that someone found it at the IMS gift
shop.

I can't tell you exactly where to find it.  I can't even say for sure
if we will duplicate more -- we would like to, but we may not be able
to.  However, it gets into a very complicated licensing situation that
I should not have to get into online.  Please understand that we have
the license to market the IMS track with ICR 1.x only.  ICR 1.x is out
of production.  There is no demand for it.  IMS is a vlauable licensed
property.  Neiter IMS or Papyrus is just going to "give it away" -- we
can't.  As someone correctly pointed out in another posting, if a
licensed property does not go to extremes to protect the licenese and
the value of it, it eventually becomes part of the public domain.  IMS
will not let that happen.  That's why we're being quite clear about
pirating. DON'T DO IT!

When I find out more about inventory that's already out there, or any
plans to duplicate more (if we even can), I will try to let you know.

Ed, Rick,
First of all let me thank you for the attention to our questions. It's
something that many other companies should learn to do (You know who
you are).

Ok, Now you talk about IMS being made suddenly famous by a track converter
done by someone who's already a hero for all of us. You are accepting
the fact that this kind of work actually increases your sales.

Let me tell you that this was the main reason why I bought a PC, because I
saw the NASSCAR homepage in the Internet, then I knew about your products,
and all the car sets, and track converters and all that stuff and
then I just got crazy about it and went immediately to convince my wife
about the need to buy a PC because I needed it for my master degree
(in fact, I do, but I can do that work in the Sun WS at work).

The main reason was because I wanted to play NASCAR and Indy II.
So, I spent 1,785 usd in a PC, then some other hundreds in NASCAR,
NASCAR track pack, INDY II, GP Manager, NFS, and ordered GPII.
Why all these ? Because I love racing. And I love your products and
I really enjoy playing in my spare time (not too much sadly).

So, if you are still reading this boring story, now you have an idea of why
we ask you so insistently to do more for us. Please make a bigger effort
to get the IMS on production again !! And please make a better NASCAR 2,
also I asked once if a Touring Car game was in mind, I got a NO. That
was very disappointing. I bet that when the NATCC gets rolling you'd change
your mind. Touring Cars are loved almost everywhere else in the world
but in the states (BTCC, ITC, JTC, ATC, etc). I hope you consider it after
NASCAR 2.

Many, many thanks,
Arturo

Maybe a good suggestion is for Papyrus/Sierra to come out
with a track builder program that way NO copyright laws will
be infringed upon. Then the player can design his/her own track!

Is it possible that because of the relatively lousy AI in ICR 1.0x no
one wanted to race at Indy there?  With the built-in improvements in
AI in NASCAR and then ICR2, along with the prospect of racing the
brickyard in SVGA, racing IMS in ICR2 & NASCAR becomes more popular.
I'd also be interested in knowing how many people want IMS for use as
as a NASCAR track versus an IndyCar II track, since every best seller
list I've seen has NASCAR there but not ICR2.

[Much of an excellent post munched]

This sums up my feelings well. Finding all these bonus add-ons from
fans around the world so accessible is just fantastic. I may have more
than enough to do just mastering the basic tracks (and putting them
all in together in one game with ICR2 was superb) but being able to
race my Indycar at Watkins Glen, or my Nascar at Laguna Seca... very
enjoyable!
