Nascar Racing - clues please!!

by Matthew Birger Patri Knuts » Sat, 16 Dec 1995 04:00:00

I have a couple of major problems: 1. I currently have no sound card & 2: I
drive with the keyboard. I am getting replacements next week, but I need some
answers, please!!
        1) When driving with the T2, will the steering be progressive, i.e the
steering does not go to full lock when you turn the wheel slightly( The only
way I have done good lap times at the Glen, is by setting the wheel lock to 5
deg, or I loose to much speed by jerking all over . 115.705 best - any better?)
2)Are there any ways of improving braking performance? If I drive with the
opponents at 100% or more, they seem to have carbon/carbon brakes, while I
have some obsolete drum brakes from an old Mini!
3)Where can I obtain the track packs - and do these contain Sears Point?
I need adresses for mail ordering these from the U.S
        4) Any tricks for finding the braking points on ovals?

        I would be very grateful!!

You really do have a handicap. Sound makes a big difference, you can hear
the tires start to squeal when you hit the edge of traction.

better?)

Steering will be proportional.

Braking will also be proportional. Someone proposed that NASCAR has some
traction control help when using the keyboard or buttons for throttle and
brake. I used it only briefly in that configuration when I first got
NASCAR, and at that point, was having enough trouble just keeping the car
on the road to notice the effect.

The track pack includes Sears Point. Also C***te, North Wilkesboro,
Pocono, Richmond and Rockingham. Seems like I'm missing one. Sorry, don't
have a mailing address handy, maybe someone else can help.

I find that there's usually a prominent skid mark that serves as a great
brake marker. Make sure you have skid marks turned on.

Hi Mathew,

The term you were looking for with steering is "proportional".   I use
a T1 and it is proportional - the more you turn the wheel the more the
wheels turn.   115 at the Glen is my best but when qualifying for an
internet racing series (IWCC) there were about 15 people who went
faster.

There is no change you can make to make brakes more affective but you
can alter the technique you use when braking.   This ranges from just
touching the brakes before corners at ovals to braking hard before the
chicane at Watkins Glen.   Here I find that easing the brackes will
allow me to turn while braking (just like real life) rather than
jamming the brakes and going straight.

The Track Pack contains: Sears Point, Richmond, Rockingham, Pocono,
North Wilkesboro, C***te and Dover Downs.   Cannot give you a US
mail order address.   Try http://www.racesimcentral.net/

To find braking points at ovals try three things: practice, practice
and practice.

Hope this has helped.

Craig.
