SHeesh!
nevermind, folks...I am using error messages to construct a folder
system... when I re-read the part in my post about not having a certain
folder that the program was looking in,,,I found my own answers...I
still don't know why the file unzipped without creating the folders...
but I have it about halfway figured out now...
thanks anyways :)

I know this one is really out of date... but can anyone help with this
problem?

I have downloaded the NFS demo from about four different places...
it unzips just fine...but no matter which version I run...and no matter
whether it's in
dos or windows95...I always get the following error:

openhandle - frontend/art/mouse.fsh FILE ERROR

can anyone help with this?

by the way...I dont have a folder called frontend or art....although I
do see the mouse.fsh file
the program was unzipped in c:\games\nfs
system is AMD 486DX(5x86p75) 133mhz
graphics blaster 3d
soundvision 500
48 megs edo ram

I also have downloaded the NFS2 demo twice (at nearly two hours each
time)

it always hangs on the startup screen.....well, actually, it briefly
flashes the startup
screen, then the program exits...

any help on either problem would be appreciated...I just wanted to try
out these demos,
I already have N1 and N2 (cd's) and they run just fine....I also have
the monster truck demo, and it works fine....I was just wondering if
these errors are purposely in the downloads in order to make you buy the
game... ?

: do see the mouse.fsh file
: the program was unzipped in c:\games\nfs

You need to use pkunzip -d.

Here is a tip:  ALWAYS use pkunzip -d to unzip ANY file.  Even if it
doesn't have subdirectories.

It does not hurt it to use the -d option if it does not have
subdirectories.  It will save you the time of having to delete
everything and re-unzip it after you take a few hours trying to figure out
why it won't run.

yeah, ya know, I did just that very thing... after about an hour of
doing other things, trying to create the folders by using error messages
to tell me what was missing...
I finally had got to a point where I didnt get an error message,,,just
an infinite hang up...

I had never had to use pkunzip -d before, so I didnt even think about
it, til I got to reading about it during a break from my futility trying
to get the game to work....
Geez, you think someone somewhere woulda said to unzip it using -d as on
my computer,
I just had it set up to unzip zipped files on a double click, without
going through a dos box.....

At least I know better now  :) wish I had seen a post on this before,
but somethings are best learned the hard way, anyway.... I'll never
forget it.
