Chasing the AI is still giving me the hoots! So, I'm not a hot-shoe. I
really don't understand where and how the times are coming from. At Spa, my
best is a lowly 3:24. More usually, I'm ecstatic with 3:27 in racing trim.
Tonight, I noticed in the replays that Gurney, driving a supposedly
identical Eagle, beats me solidly and consistently on the straights. I'm
pulling away in the corners -- in, out, and through -- but he eats it all
back up on the next straight. If I had to guess, he looks to have a 50 hp
advantage. So, I have to ask, are there tweaks to be made in the .ini files
to help me?
Also, I don't think it's fair that they get into horrific wrecks and then
just keep on coming. Gurney tried to pass on the inside going into Stavelot,
and managed to get all the way by before the turn entrance. Swinging back
out across my nose to pick up the racing line, he overcooked it and slid off
into the fence on the outside. I was very pleased and surprised to see that
the AI phucks up the same way I do. However, my glee was short-lived, as he
was right back on my tail even before we left Stavelot. Checking the replay
later, he simply caromed of the fence at 190+ mph, blipped down two gears,
and kept right on coming. This was in practice for a GP race, with realistic
damage (but apparently not for the AI). I held him off for 2 more laps by
simply holding the racing line. Gurney would pull even or get a nose ahead
coming into Masta and Stavelot, but would always fall back in line. He
finally passed me for good when I caved and overpowered it coming out of
Cottage. (He wasn't close enough to have rammed me. As I said, I beat him
solidly through most corners.)
I also notice AI-Gurney shifts at 10k rpm. The Eagle's engine explodes by
lap 5 when I shift much higher than 9k. No doubt this gives him an
acceleration and top speed advantage, but enough to pull all the way ahead
between Masta and Stavelot??? We're at equal speed coming out of Masta; if
anything, I have the slightest advantage by virtue of unloading and
accelerating first. So, gents, what's the secret here? I have a MSFF set, so
there isn't anything I can about possible pedal miscalibration. Where can I
find more straightline speed?
Beating the Authors is fine and dandy; I'm just looking to not be a
tail-marker with the AI. I have a replay of 4 laps of this nonsense,
including his unspectacular crash and miraculous recovery. If you'd care to
critique, please let me know.
Michael.
