GT3 for NFSPU -- disappointing

by Todd Walk » Wed, 28 Jun 2000 04:00:00

I haven't seen any posts about it here but that may be because I
usually just skim the group and I could have missed it. Anyway, the
GT3 is out for NFS:PU. I just downloaded it and I have to say I am
fairly disappointed. First of all, the engine sound is lifted straight
from the GT1, which is unrealistic. Second, the handling is not very
precise, as you would expect it to be in a car that is setup for club
racing and such. It also has a significant tendency toward understeer.

Maybe it is just me. I much prefer the handling of the pre-'98 911s
that you can hang the tail out by just coming off the gas. The GT2 is
my favorite car in the game.

For comparison, I raced the GT3 and a standard '98 Carrera 3.4 at Cote
d'Azur and here are the results:

GT3 -- 2:48.31
127mph at the finish line

Carrera -- 2:57.09
115mph at the finish line

So the GT3 IS faster and has more power (as evidenced by the higher
MPH at the finish line) but it still isn't nearly as much fun for me
as the GT2.

The GT2 is not well liked because it's not an easy car
to master esp. if you use ***controllers.

But it is extrememly entertaining to drive. It oversteers
like crazy and with a skilful driver, is extremely quick.

It's my fave.

The 959 sux as well.

The GT2 is my absolute favorite car to drive in PU. I was hoping that
the GT3 would be just as entertaining but unfortunately it was not
meant to be.

GT3 for NFSPU -- disappointing

On the topic of favorite cars in NFSPU, I find myself in a quandry.  EA
has done such good job of making each car unique, different, and
authentic-feeling, and I find that at any given time, my favorite car
changes from day-to-day.  Each has its nuances that make it delightful,
and with variations in tuning, each car's personality comes out in
unique ways, and even after several months now, I still seem to be
finding new things to enjoy.

For example, while running through Evolution Mode again, I recently
"discovered" the 944 Turbo Convertible on the "Used Car" market (I've
never seen it on the "New Car" market).  This is one SWEET car -- and
finding this "new" car added yet another dimension to an already-deep
game.  So don't forget to look for the gems on the used car market --
you might find some pleasant surprises!

GT3 for NFSPU -- disappointing

I actually like the GT3.  I think its tight handling is appealing.  I do
enjoy the ass happy GT2 but if I had to pick I'd drive the GT3.  My favorite
car, however, is the Moby***.  What a machine.  I love the sound, feel and
look of the thing.  Now, if I'd just won the damn thing the first time!  My
fps sucked and I crashed.  I was running a Celeron 450a and V3.  I'm

;-)

You do know that the Moby sometimes appears on the USED car market too,
don't you?  It's still pricey, but you can still pick them up there
from time to time cheaper than the "new" price.

GT3 for NFSPU -- disappointing

by Thomas C Norwo » Wed, 28 Jun 2000 04:00:00

I took the GT3 out on the Autobahn, Monaco 2, and Cote D'Azur and wasn't
overly impressed.  It just didn't seem very fast, especially considering
the real car is not available in North America.

Of course, I have been playing F1 2000 lately so EVERYTHING seems slow,
even the GT1. :)

My Autobahn time in the GT1 was almost 40 seconds faster than the GT3 with
the same route.  I know the GT1 is a race car but that doesn't seem right.

I haven't tried the 959 yet...

Anyway, I'll stick with the 2000 911 Turbo.

Same here, I love the awesome tail happy models like the Moby*** (935)
and my tweaked '78 911 Turbo (930) it has a stage 4 turbo and all the
other mods on it and s is the first car that taught me the meaning of
too much power for the chassis to handle.

I've raced both of them online in races with others driving only modern
wimpy understeery '00 911 turbos and even won a few times. I drive them
like I do a rally car, swinging the back end out and controlling the
slide with the throttle, what a blast, gotta love NFS:PU.
