Changing # of engines for icr2

by Gus » Tue, 25 Mar 1997 04:00:00

I am trying to change the number of engines in icr2 to include the toyota.
I edit the drivers2.txt file lines so that numengines=4 then type in toyota
on the line with the other engines.  It works for the first time I use it,
but after that it changes back.  Can anyone help me?  And as long as I am
on the subject, I heard it was possible to add another chasis (swift) even
though papyrus says no.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

More than likely there is something hard coded into in the program that
deals with the engine and chassis. If it was in one of the .DAT files
someone could possibly get to it. I really haven't looked into the .DAT
files for ICR2 yet, but I tried what you were talking about a long while
ago and it did the same thing.

I have tried the same thing when I was trying to use a Formula One carset.
What happened was that it worked the first time but some of the engines
sounded terrible. When I exited and then went back into ICR2, the extra
engines were gone.

I am not sure, but maybe it has something to do with the "super" engine in
ICR1, and that it doesn't want something similar to happen in ICR2.

I've been asking this question since the end of the 1995 season/release
of ICR2.  One of the great faults with ICR2 compared to ICR1 is that
unlike its predecessor, there is no built-in option for adding new
engines or chassis, even in name only with no performance changes.

Someone once suggested I just make drivers2.txt read-only, but that
causes error messages to appear every time you go to the Driver Info
menu.

Can't anyone figure out how to do this - preferably before I start
CART97?

You could add engines in ICR1. If you added several (doesn't matter
what the names are) to the existing ones, and then chose about
the 5th or 6th engine, you would have the "super" engine.

It didn't give you such a great advantage at road courses, but you'd
fly at Michigan. You could hit over 300 mph on the straights at Michigan
and do 275 going sideways through the turns for average laps speeds of
over 280 mph. The MPG were always 9.99 and it never overheated (If I
remember correctly, the temp always stayed at 180). I don't have IMS,
but if you do, try racing there with the super engine, too. Just remember,
you'll leave the AI in the dust and burn up the tires.
