rec.autos.simulators

I'm sure this is a really stupid question but I've been unable to
figure it out myself via dejanews and net searches, and there doesn't
seem to be a manual with the version of NFS3 I received with my V3
3000.

Is it possible to shift manually in this game? I believe the answer is
yes because you can map keys/buttons to "Shift Up" and "Shift Down"
commands. The problem is there doesn't seem to be anyway to tell the
game to stop auto-shifting on its own and the other perhaps bigger
problem is that whenever I downshift the car just goes into neutral!
This makes me think there might be a separate command for the clutch
(meaning every shift requires two key/button presses) but, if there
is, I can't find it.

You access this menu by clicking on the car name on the main screen, BTW.  (in
case you hadn't found it)

I hate tweaking setups in any game/sim, but NFS3 (and4) has a very simplified
version that you can deal with easily.  Don't be afraid of looking in there.

Thanks. I went looking for the options screen for tweaking my car and
couldn't find it. I was about to post a follow-up question but you've
saved me the trouble.  :)

Now that the non-obvious method for accessing this screen has been
explained to me, I'll do just that. Thanks, again.
