Core.ini question

by Michael Barlo » Thu, 23 Dec 1999 04:00:00

I started to read the info about collisions with lag (err something
like that) related to core.ini files on the VROC pages.  However, I got
lost after a couple of sentences.  What I want to know is..

Would there be any kind of a benefit to having all the clients use the
same core.ini but the server use something completely different?
i.e... Clients use 3/84 and server use 2/516.  Or the other way around?

Next, with a server using a 2/516, is he sending 516 bits out to each
of the 10 clients? or is he sending (1 in mirror and 5 ahead) 516x6 bits
out to each client? (516x6=3096 x 10 clients= 30960)
=================

Since there is nothing said about receiving this information, are we to
assume that each client is receiving and using this data every 1/16th of
a second? (2/516)

The reason I ask is.. with a dedicated server on a connection with a
lot of bandwidth available, Would it be beneficial to the clients to
have the server send out as often as possible with as much info as
possible?  (thinking out loud...) I'd assume that the server would have
to have a very fast CPU to process all this information to send it out
on time?

There are other questions I have but I'll ask them one at a time from
here on out and relate them to the answers to these questions above in
another post later on.

As far as I know, if you are running GPL 1.2 and WinVROC 2.1 (as of today) it is
unnecessary to worry about any core.ini issues. We (I'm a presumptious bastard)
have been running GPL 1.2 and
WinVROC for a while flawlessly. The change to WinVROC 2.1 is effective today as
WinVROC 2.0 and 2.1 are incompatible. FF users may be aware of their special needs
however.
