Rally Championship - X Miles addon

by Ste.. » Mon, 31 Mar 1997 04:00:00

Europress have now released an addon package for their Rally
Championship game - the addon is under the name The X-Miles addon.
Cost at HMV Oxford Street London was 14.99 UKP last Wednesday but I
have now seen the software on sale in Byte for 12.99 UKP.

Obviously you have to have the original game to use the addon, however
whilst the original minimum spec was a 486 DX2/66 the addon now has a
minimum of a  P100 (recommended P150).

The addon allows 10 extra courses in all modes, i.e. individual,
arcade, championship etc. It includes BIG jumps (yes BIG jumps),
tunnels (cannot recall any tunnels on rally courses), deserts and
courses where the weather/road conditions vary.

It may just be my imagination but the addon also appears to have
improved the way in which the car handles, i.e. plenty of back end
step out.

All in all, a worthwhile purchase IMHO.

Cheers

They were(are?) doing an offer of 9.99 UKP + 2.95 P&P if
you buy it from them before the launch. I got my copy
on Monday. It installed OK but lost my config and all my saved
games :-( This is a major bummer and there was no warning
about this in the insructions (what instructions???)

It also says complete with course maps - but the only maps
I found was the ones in the 'View stage' option there were no
'paper' maps of the stages like in the original game.

: The addon allows 10 extra courses in all modes, i.e. individual,

There are tunnels in the original game but the x-miles has tunnels with
gradients :-)

: step out.

I think it's just your imagination :-)

: All in all, a worthwhile purchase IMHO.

For a tenner, yes, 15 quid is too steep for just 10 tracks.

On a slightly different tact, has anybody managed to suss out the
graphics format used for the textures/car bitmaps?? I would
love to edit them but have not sussed out the format yet.

Anyone have any ideas on how to do this? Or even better suss out
a track editor.... That would be fun.....!!

Looking at the files they appear to be simple 'bitmaps' but are
not in a 'standard' format. If you see what I mean.

Happy driving...

Neil
