Am I just dumb, or the the AI in Indycar I really frustrating?

I've just gotten back into the sim (got pedals for Christmas).  After much
testing I can qualify first, I can drive very consistently, I've got a setup
that'll let me run high, low, etc.  But I can't seem to drive more that 10-15
laps before some knucklehead, computer car drives into me!

How do you handle this?  Am I the only one who's frustrated?  Do I just need
to 'be more careful'?  Or is this known behavior and should I be looking for
another sim?

Is Nascar any better?  How about Indycar 2?

I've got a 486-66 vlb with a not-too-fast graphics card so I probably can't
run svga.  Is Indycar 2 worth the $?  Is the AI improved significantly?

I think IndycarII is much better, I actually had a car almost hit me, and I saw him
move over away as I passed him. (watched on a replay)
I couldn't stand Indycar I because of the same thing. Whenever a dork hit me, that
was my cue to go backwards around the track and take everyone out so I could still
finish first (no damage setting of course!) !!

Well, on ICR2 at Lake Elkhart there are some very fast corners [some would even say bendy
straights] and the computer, rather than braking, will move over and ram you off if you
are hogging the racing line. However, compared up to ICR1, this is nothing and you'll
learn not to get into situations like that anyway. As for Nascar, your car can take a hell
of a lot more and so it doesn't matter too much.

This is one of the things that Papyrus really screwed up on.  Hey,
Papyrus, can you say "BETA TESTING"???  Geez...  Talk about jerky
drivers.  This one thing screws the whole game up.
Also I noticed something.  During the off-season of IndyCar, I like
to do a championship season without me driving.  I run the whole race
in accelerated mode, and once in a while I go to replay and watch 5
minutes of the race.  Then I resume the race.  This is what I noticed,
when a car is like 1:00 behind the leader and then a yellow flag comes
out, all the cars slow down right then, way before the pace car.  Then,
by the time it's green, that car that was a minute behind is still :30
behind the leader.  This bugged me.
Also, the breakdowns were overdone.  When I watch a race in the
game, I'm wanting Unser, Andretti, Herta, and Gordon to do well.  But,
half of those races, all of those drivers were out with mechanical
problems.  And to make it worse, Villeneuve (a personally hated driver)
made it through the entire season without a DNF!  And he won the
Championship.
I guess I'm rambling on about things that I hate about IndyCar
Racing 2.  But, I REALLY love ICR2, and it's the greatest game out
there.  I'm just saying to Papyrus, test your games a lot more, and
there will be no bugs.
Oh, one thing I like about Papyrus is that the upgrade patches are
free (downloadable).  Oh, and one question, Is Papyrus going to make an
upgrade patch for ICR2 soon?
