WSC-I can wait!

Okay it will probably be very good when we get to see it eventually but I'm
in no rush.  The GPL community is thriving at the moment and during the rest
of this year we will see plenty of new tracks released.  I'm worried that
once WSC comes out the many GPLers will migrate over to that and GPL will
die out.

WSC-I can wait!

This may be heresy around these parts, but I'm seriously hoping that WSC is
good enough to supplant GPL.  If it's truly as open as I've read, people
will be able to model the entire 1967 season- tracks, cars, and all.  As
great as the GPLEA cars are, can you imagine a Ferrari or Eagle done with
the detail we've seen in the WSC shots?  And other seasons could follow-
pretend to be Fangio in a mid 50s car or Rosemeyer in a 30s Auto Union.
Imagine the possibilities!  A burning question though- will it support a
track as long as the old Nordschliefe?

But that's all apparently in the distant future and GPL does quite nicely
for now.

GPL will never die out. At least not on my CPU!!

<snip>

I agree in many ways - after all, we don't really want to find out that
GPL is the best that will *ever* be produced, and that it's all
downhill from here.

<snip>

Well, it'll have to cope with Le Mans, so it ought to. IN any case, who
cares? The Targa Florio is what's *really* important!

Assuming you don't upgrade your CPU, you'll be fine.  Check out the GPL
won't run on... threads for the details!

WSC-I can wait!

Well my appetite is well and truely whetted but I know exactly what you
mean. There's still plenty of time for GPL to breathe yet, even when we
get the WSC demo there'll probably be a healthy delay before the actual
release. And then it's going to take some time before GPL peters out as
people have to upgrade hardware to cope with it and track/car variety is
limited for WSC.

I'm a relative newcomer to it all, I stumbled upon GPL in September last
year and then kind of fell straight into UKGPL league racing. It's been
a costly business. Since then I have upgraded everything and have
virtually played nothing else, my free time has dwindled away! I
wouldn't swap that time for anything (although my wife might disagree).

WSC looks and sounds as if it could also be _very_ special but we'll be
able to tell in the first 5 minutes whether it's going to be a real
contender. It's that way that GPL just feels like you're in control of a
racing car, whereas you feel strangely disembodied in GPn and every
other sim racer I've tried so far.

IMO it's in that translation of 'that special feeling' that we'll know
if there is a worthy successor to GPL, no amount of 'eye candy' will
ever make up for it. But even if it is the real McCoy, until we've got
everything GPL currently offers then I'm still going to fire it up for a
run out on my PC for a good long while yet! For nostalgic reasons it'll
be a very sad day when we fire up winvroc and there's nobody there, but
if that is the case we'll be already be in sim racing heaven with WSC! I
think this is just where the West's want to take us!

For today though, GPL truely is 'the bollocks'!

Cheers,

Andy

"...that special feeling" is directly related to the 6DOF physics model
IMHO.  WSC boasts support for this as well as the most incredible eye candy
I've seen in a driving sim yet.  The new menu's look GREAT.

I can wait as well.  If we don't see it until Q1 2002 that's cool.  I just
hope it doesn't slip any further than that.

You'll find most imformation at http://www.racesimcentral.net/

The official website is http://www.racesimcentral.net/ - but the guys havent got
much stuff on the site yet, because they are working so *** trying to
get the game finished :)

All the best,
Ash
