N2 Lockup then Scandisk shows Linked files?!

N2 Lockup then Scandisk shows Linked files?!

by Tom Dix » Sun, 23 Feb 1997 04:00:00

It's happened a couple times now.  Nascar2 (running in DOS) will
lockup.  Usually when I'm on the car setup sheet.  I have to reset the
computer to get it started again and then later Scandisk shows an N2
file crosslinked to another file on my system

It happened last night and I immediately ran Scandisk.  One of the
Rockingham setup files was crosslinked with C:\Windows\System.da0.  I
told scan disk to fix the problem by killing the setup file and saving
the system file.  That was a bit scarry having a system file (the DA0
file is the backup I think, but too close for comfort!) nearly
corrupted.

I'm pretty sure this was cause and effect since my Win95 System Agent
runs scandisk on a regular basis the disk was clean when I started N2.
Again, I'm running in DOS - Restart Computer in DOS Mode - not a DOS
window.

Has anyone else noticed this?  Have you run a scandisk after an N2
lockup?

System.da0 is a backup of part of Win95's registry.

I have never had N2 lock up on me.  Well that's not true.  I did a
partial install and popped out the CD-ROM once and tried to go to the
setup screen and it did eventually lockup.  But I have never had any
other problems with N2 wrecking havoc.  Do you happen to have the FAT 32
version of Win95 installed?  You might want to seriously consider
re-installing N2, there may be a corrupted file in there somewhere which
is causing this.
