Live!Ware 3.0 and GPL a no go?

by Dean Purd » Fri, 29 Oct 1999 04:00:00

Just installed the Live!Ware 3.0 update on my system and now GPL won't load.
All I get is a black screen that freezes up my pc and all that will fix it
is a reboot. I also found that when using it with N3 if you are running at
1024x768 and you hit <Esc> after driving to get to the replay screen the
same thing happens, black screen and need to reboot, but when running at
800x600 no problems at all. I know that N3's replays are in 800x600 and
figured that it's when switching video modes that things are going awry, so
I figured I'd try GPL at 800x600, but still no go. I even tried running my
desktop at different resolutions to see if this would work, but so far the
same lockups occur. I uninstalled the LW 3.0 and went back to LW 2.1 and all
is fine again. Reinstalled 3.0 to try once more and just a repeat of the
first time:-(  Anyone else had similar experiences? Here's my specs. Thanks
to all!!!!

I had the same thing happen to me. When I first tried reinstalling GPL over what
was left in my GPL directory after uninstalling, same deal (black screen). I had
to change the name of the original directory (to save my setups and fastest
laps) and reinstall GPL to a fresh directory, then reinstall the 1.1 patch and
my setups. After this it works fine.

Same problem here, but removing that useless Creative Launcher fixed the
problem.
GPL works fine again now.

Live!Ware 3.0 and GPL a no go?

yep
lw3 did do that too me, i tried removing everything in my systray and it
worked (only after reinstalling gpl twice and loosing everything!)
it is the creative launcher that does it, a company that big should be shot
for this!

off topic but, what is the point of the lava thing?????? or that update
thing that just annoys everyone?

im going to write a complaint email

Live!Ware 3.0 and GPL a no go?

by Dean Purd » Fri, 29 Oct 1999 04:00:00

The Launcher did it with a broken driver in the computer room. (And I
thought it was Colonel Mustard) Guilty as charged!!!! As soon as I disabled
the Launcher all was normal again and GPL is back up and running. Thanks to
all that responded. You saved me from pulling out what little hair I have
left :-)

Dean,

Wow thanks to all, I have exactly the same problem and a similar one with
SCGT. My precise symptoms are:
GPL, set for 3Dfx will only run if the desktop is set to 640*480! anything
above this I get a black screen after the 3Dfx logo.
SCGT, will run at any resolution but if it is above 640*480 when I hit
escape to exit a practice I get a message to press return. If I do that I
get a black screen lockup. SCGT works fine with D3D!
I've rebuilt my machine twice (thinking it was DX 7). I'll try getting rid
of the launcher and report back.
Cheers al lyou guys who spotted this.

Andi.

Many Thanks to you all. Again.

Has anyone pointed this out to Creative yet?

My problem is even worse. I downloaded the 28MB, extracted the files,
doubleclicked on the setup.exe, it pops up 4 dialogs about extracting
files, then a box saying: "Starting LiveWare3.0 setup", and that's it.
Nothing happens!!!

This after removing everything related to the SBLive, I even removed
the card from the device manager. No go!

At least reinstalling 2.0 plus 2.1 was possible.

Anybody having the same problem?

The box said "Windows 95 or better", so I installed LINUX!

Did you uninstall LW2/2.1 first and then installed LW3? (As Creative told us
to.)
Instead just install it on top of LW2/2.1 and let the setup program
uninstall the older version.
It worked for me at least.
(And then get rid of Creative Launcher.)
