All it shows it a picture of a track that has "Daytona" written on the
wall. It could be just Talladega with "Daytona" put on the walls.

Let's start another BIG thread here.  If SEGA renewed their rights for
the Daytona track license, does it mean that Papyrus/Sierra just let now
the chance for us to have the track for N2???  So now it will be
impossible for us to drive Daytona or the Brickyard for N2, except from
3th party utilities?  I just hope that Papyrus IS TRYING to speak with
NASCAR and IMS to make an exception for N2.  'Cause the only thing that
will happen if Papyrus doesn't have the license for Daytona and/or Indy
is that SimRacers WILL AT 100% sure make a track illegaly.  THEY WILL.
So I hope that if someones makes here a Daytona track for N2 nobody will
shout the news outside r.a.s. and Simracing Website.  I don't think that
NASCAR check r.a.s. to see if we have illegal tracks of a racing game.
They probably don't know how redneck and how serious we take simulation
racing games.  So to not make any trouble it's time to shut our mouth
and don't tell a word outside the simracing communauty (like for
Gerhard's converters).  I just hope that maybe one day NASCAR will
discover that simracing games are very important for marketing the
winston cup.  I never watched a winston cup race before Nascar1 came
out.  It's only after that I told to myself "Hey littl'boy, It's time to
move 'r ***out of the PC screen to watch how good those drivers are in
reality".  And to see who the heck was this guy in the #24Dupont car
that was always winning in the game :)  .  Thanks a lot,

Good race at the Brickyard,

I don't know if I agree with all of this, but I will say that I'm one
carpetbagging Northener who barely paid attention to Winston Cup before
N1 and I have since become  monsterous fan. I've bought tickets, and
I've bought all the merchandise (well more than enough anyway<G>) and
I've started a two fanatsy leagues (one for Busch), and I even signed my
radio station on to MRN and broadcast the races...all because of N1...As
a stick and ball guy, I've always been impressed with how everyone in
NASCAR works for the greater good, and for the betterment and
advancement of the Series because they realize that that's how they all
prosper (unlike my other sports!). It would seem, that something could
be worked out, especially since SEGA's Daytona and N2 are hardly
competing for the same customers. Wiser heads should prevail here, but I
have my doubts.....

Well said.  I don't think the "powers that be" understand how much they
have had their sport's interest spread due to Papyrus's sims.
Especially world wide.  There is a "strange" race-hungry group of
"sim'mers" out there.  Who the heck do they think they are fooling?

Does one think that someone who just played Sega's Daytona is going to
"religiously" follow the Winston Cup ciruit?  Heck, I wouldn't!  Where
the *&#$ are the trees and mountains?  Shouldn't there be a chicane-thing
in the middle of the back stretch?   Why doesn't that car just goose-it
and go around the slow-poke in front?  Shucks, forget that, I'm going
back to the real world and live in Sega-land, no more "reality" for me!

DAYTONA FOR N2, IS IT FOR REAL????????????????

by Lynn M. Smi » Tue, 06 May 1997 04:00:00

I'm not a "carpetbagging Northerner", but rather a native Southerner.  But I
can say the same as some others:  I barely paid attention to Winston Cup
before Nascar 1.  I got the game because I thought it would be fun to crash
other cars.  Then I got the game and saw that it wasn't a game at all, but a
simulation.  After reading through the game manual, I thought to myself, "I
need to start watching Winston Cup".  I had watched a few races over the years
and can remember growing up and hearing the names of Richard Petty, Cale
Yarbrough, Buddy Baker, David Peason, etc., but never paying much attention
beyond that.  In 1994, I watched a few races (it was July or August 94 when I
bought N1, can't remember exactly).  In 1995, I watched a few more.  In 1996,
I watched the entire season from start to finish.  The same goes for '97, I've
went to my first race (Interstate Batteries 500) and I own NASCAR merchandise.

NASCAR 1 is a great way to get people to start watching Winston Cup.  I never
would have thought without reading this group that there was anyone like me
(who started watching NASCAR because of the game, instead of getting the game
because they were a NASCAR fan).  Just remember the old saying, "Money talks
and Bullshit Walks."  NASCAR will go where the dollars are.  So if you don't
want Sega controlling Daytona, stop buying Sega products!

The reason for the trademarks are because of the billboards coming out
of turn two at Darlington: Daytona USA adverti***t.

Your -so- right.  I would be willing to bet that Eurosport wouldn't be
showing Winston Cup over here if it hadn't been for Papyrus (well, maybe
that's going a -bit- far - maybe a certain Tom Cruise flick had something to
do with it!).
One thing that -is- a fact is that my US holiday this year would be about 800
pounds cheaper if I'd never come across Papyrus.  Internal flights, cars,
hotels and race tickets fot the October C***te event!
I think we -deserve- Daytona and Indianapolis :-)
