There's one big difference between Nscar and ICR that really bugs me.
...Well, it doesn't really bug me, but...anyway
In Nascar if a car is damaged it goes into the pits and, more often than
not, returns to the race. In icr2 if the AI cars get damaged, more often
than not they stay in the pits. The race field gradually dwindles (or
dwindles very quickly, depending on how you're driving) and you're left
driving round and round with noone to race against. It's too late now, I
know, but it would have been a very welcome option to be able to turn
off/on damage to the AI cars in ICR1 and ICR2.
I know right now someone out there is itching to send off a message to
this newsgroup saying why dontcha learn to f**** drive instead of
whining. But not everybody, in fact I believe only a small minority of
those driving ICR2 and Nascar are such excellent drivers that they
wouldn't need this option. When I was driving ICR1,just before I switched
to ICR2, I was more often than not able to win races at over 100% without
knocking out more than a couple of cars. People drive this game in order
to enjoy themselves, whether it is by winning races or just the thrill of
realistic wheel to wheel competiton.
As an example, I was racing a 100% distance race at Michigan recently,
was driving well, holding a steady third, when I got squeezed while
easing off a slower car, tapped a car on my outside, went into a spin,
and while spiining got hit by just about every car in the race. With 200
laps to go there goes a quarter of the field and I'm looking forward to a
long, uneventful race.
From my experience in this race and others the AI in NASCAR and ICR is
not all that "I".

Well, its close to realistic,
Less than 10 cars were running at the finish of both the US 500 and that
sham of a race in Indianapolis.

Yeah, well I know that. What I was saying was that with an option to
allow damage/no damage to IA cars, if you wanted to you could continue to
race against a complete field instead of racing for lap after lap without
seeing another car. (ie if you've collided with other cars). The
e***ment of racing is just as important as the wish for realism. Well.
I think so, anyway. And so do you, otherwise you wouldn't have given the
no damage/arcade/realistic options for the human car. Seeing the other
cars on the track, in front of you, behind you, beside you for an hour,
two hours, the length of the race, wheel to wheel, catch, chase, passing,
being passed...that's what gets the ticker going. Not "Oh, look, a tree
beside the track, doesn't it look realistic." It's about e***ment. The
Boner Factor. Right?
Anyway, I love the game, bugs or not, and I've got to thank you guys at
Papyrus for that.

Turn damage on, and you won't have to worry about long, uneventful races.. :)

I agree, but you have to learn where the AI cars are "Artificially Stupid".
Then you can work around them.  Of course, I'm still having trouble with
them on turn 5 at Portland...they get *really* stupid there...

I've been doing some races at Indy, too, and ran a couple of 50% races there.
Both times I got taken out by Emmo in turn 1, in almost the exact same way.
First time was damage off, testing setups, no problem, got it back together
to capture 3rd (95%). Second time, arcade damage on, he was a backmarker
getting passed by the leader (me), and he toasted me...NEVER try passing on
the inside of turn one!

No,no,no. The race distance was 100%, not the opps.
Roy
Oh, and by the way, maybe someone can tip me off as to this minor problem
I'm having sending replies to news items. Like when I tried to send a one
line answer to Eldred Pickett's item I got a warning saying there was
more old shit in this transmission than there was new stuff. How do I
send a short answer without getting this message? "Article not posted -
More included text than new text"
Thanks
Roy
