F1RS no brakes

F1RS no brakes

by Guy Brossea » Thu, 01 Jan 1998 04:00:00

Please help,

I use CH's Virtual Pilot Pro with CH's Pedals, connected to the game port.
It works with everything, I have it under Win95 as a custom controller, and
it test's ok.  All the controls work, the gas pedal is axis 3, the brake
pedal is axis 4.

The problem is that in configuring the controls in F1RS, I go through the
routine, click the mouse on the desired control, then press the appropriate
pedal, the ststem recognizes the pedal presses, and rightly assigns
accelerate to axis 3 up,
and brake to axis 4 up.
However once ins the sim, the brake does not work at all. I tried
everything, adjusting pedal sensitivity, etc, to no avail.
I tried selecting different controllers in win95, calibrating everything,
allways at the end with gas on axis 3 and brake on axis 4. Same routine in
F1RS, same results
no brakes.

If I switch the controls in F1RS, assign accelerate with the brake pedal,
axis 4, and the brake with the gas pedal, axis 3, then I have no gas pedal
working in the sim
Maybe the brake pedal works, there is no way to tell since the car doesn't
move.

It looks as if the sim doesn't recognize the 4 axis once in the sim. It does
recoginze the brake pedal press on the config, assign's it axis 4, but
that's it
once on the track, no brakes.
I tried to assign the brake to the vertical movement ot the wheel, you push
the wheel forward, it the assign's brake to the y axis.  This works, I can
brake this way
but it is really clumsy.

Any help ?

Many thanks

This problem only existed in the demo, in my experience at least. But
all is fixed in the release version. I used the same assignments as you.

This is fixed in the 1.05 patch from Ubi or other sites  mentioned on
this group.  Before this patch was available it was necessary to set
the pedals and yoke as two separate 2 axis joysticks in W95 game
controllers, but that is no longer required.

Good luck!

Hi Stanley, unfortunately I don't run the demo, but the retail version sold
in Canada at Price Costco. It is a French version. My wife gave it to me for
X-Mas.

It was in stores about a week before december 25, not before that.

Anyway, I did a full install, at first the game would not load at all. I use
a Creative Labs 3DBlaster PCI  ( rendition verite chip ).  So I tried the
verite drivers on the CD,
and it worked, but I couldn't see the intro.  Next I downloaded the new
drivers from Creative Lab's page ( Directx 5.0 ), along with the new Bios
for the card.

That worked fine, intro and everything, so let's go to the races.

But no brakes. and believe me I did try, for hours, and am about ready to
give up and take it back.

I know you can save many configuration files in this sim, and reload them
later. Do you think you could e-mail me your configuration file ?

I tried everything I could in Win95, got new drivers for the Virtual Pilot
Pro,
selected it with the pedals/rudder option etc.
I tried custom setup, 4 axes, 4 buttons, defined as a wheel.  I tried other
combinations of Flightstick with rudder/pedals
I still allways wind up calibrating the thing, testing it, test's fine,
both pedals are recognized and move fine, win95 calls the gas pedal the
number 3 axis, and the brake pedal the number 4 axis.

Once in the sim, I go to a testing mode where I'm alone on the Monza track
in the Ferrari. In the configuration screen, under controls, left turn is
axis 1, left; right turn is axis 1, right; brake is axis 4, up and gas is
axis 3, up.  I use buttons 1 and 2 for gear shift, even with the car in
automatic.

everything works except brakes. I noticed that depending on the joystick
choosen in win95, the center on the controls display will show either
joystick1, or wheel 1.

Also, if I put the brake pedal to the maximum sensitivity, even though the
car dosen't respond to the brake pedal, as soon as you remove your foot from
the gas pedal, it start's slowing down in a hurry, as if maybe about 30 %
brake force was applied.

If you move the sensitivity back low, this doesn't happen, it just slows
down normally under compression

Any help will be appreciated,  please let me know how you set up your stick
in win95, etc

Many thanks.

Would anyone know where I could find the demo version of this sim?
Thanks a bunch,

Hey, a fellow Torontonian (actually Im from Hamilton).

This is a "Beta demo" as I remember it .  You need a 3Dfx card to run
it.  It is slower than the actual release, and there are other bugs in
AI, and graphics.  The trees look flat and 2 dimensional for example.
But is still great and gives a pretty good indication of what to
expect from the game.

The address is:  ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/3dfxmania/games/f1ubi.exe
and is 26.2 megs!!

Its a fantastic sim. If they are still in stock you can order it from
www.ubisoft.com, or from www.interactcd.com.

Enjoy.

Are the prices identical from both sources? Is F1RS also called
Formula 1 by Psygnosis?

You're joking, right?

"On 5 August 1944 in the vicinity of St. Sever Calvados, France, witnessed a
German Mark V Panther tank knock out three M4 and three M5 tanks during and
after being hit by at least fif*** rounds of 75mm APC from a distance of
approximately 700 yards. All of these shells had ricochetted, with the
exception of a six***th round which finally put the Mark V Panther out of
action." Sgt. Thomas P. Welborn, Germany's Panther tank, the quest for

I think both are sold for 39.99 american.  I wound up spending over
$60 CDN after exchange, taxes, etc.  Still $60 CDN is not too bad
since most games go for that price anyways.

I dont know if you are joking with this statement.  But if you are'nt,
then the answer is a big NO!!!!

There is a big difference in the games.  Formula 1 by Psygnosis is
great graphically, but that's where it ends.  It really is an arcade
type Formula 1 racing game.  It was ported over from the PlayStation,
so that should give you an indication of how much of a sim it
is/is'nt.  The cars are "glued" to the track, which is a pain because
no matter hard hard you wipe out your car never flies off the track or
anything.  The AI of the opponents are horrible, they wont go around
you if you've crashed, most of the time they will just bump into you.
Pretty crappy.  Good for younger kids I guess.

F1RS is a simulation, and can also be raced for the inexperienced in
easy mode.  So I think it wins on every count.

Marc.

Hello  Steve,
I'm from Oshawa Ont. and I've been playing F1RS since Dec. 19 when it
arrived from InteractCD. You can order it from their web site, it
arrived in about 7 days. It was 40 US dollars, don't know what it is
really going to cost as the VISA bill has not arrived yet. Buy it, it
is the best racing sim yet! The more I play it the better I like it.

Regards

Edward

Nooooooo.  Two completely different game.  F`1RS is called  "F1 Racing
Simulation".  I got mine from InteractCd (http://www.interactcd.com/)
for $39 (US dollars)  Not sure if they have any left, but worth a
look.

I have F1RS & don't use it, I think that GP2 in much better if you take
hardware requirements & the fact it is almost 2 years old.
Perhaps we should all get a refund?  This sits on the shelf with Touring
Car Champions.   Terry

What are you talking about? GP2 is still a dog on my P200 and F1RS is
fluid with all graphics on. And I think the physics are better, too.
