Confusing and conflicting reports :(

This really surprised me.  I thought DC had an elaborate anti-aircraft defense
on the rooftops of several buildings around key installations.  Why wasn't this
plane shot out of the sky before it ever hit the Pentagon?

I can only imagine that Plane #4 was headed for Whitehouse before it crashed in
PA.

Possibly because a)they didn't know it was part of a series of terrorist
attacks, and b)because it contained 100+ innocent civilians?

I can understand your outrage, but it's important to realise such a scenario
was probably never envisaged.

were in direct route for 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

It was a widely publicized fictional scenario in Tom Clancy's novel
Debt of Honor (except that one crashed the Capitol). Before that,
Dale Brown's Storming Heaven has a similar scenario.

Exactly!  Reports said that plane was coming in at treetop level knocking over
power-line poles before it hit the Pentagon.  I'd rather see wreckage strewn
down a few blocks than our famous 5-sided builded reduced to 4 sides.

Wrong, you can down a plane with a missile, not STOP it, maybe you can
explode a small fighter, but not a big airliner, if you shoot it the way you
say you spread the damage, instead of hitting hard a small surface you spray
burning fuel and plane parts on a huge area and you will kill more people.

There is just nothing to do against a 300 ton thing moving at 600+kph, maybe
if you KNOW 20 minutes beforehand you can try to shoot the thing out of the
sky but there are not many unhabited place on the US east cost, so in fact
what happened is probably the scenario that has caused the less lives to be
lost, can you imagine if one wing is falling on one place, another wing
somewhere else, the tail another place and so on, instead of having 1 impact
you have many...

I think the biggest problem is to know how could 4 planes be hijacked at the
same time, leaving from american airports.

yes.  but that theory has one problem.  the plane that _did_ crash in
DC took off from Dulles.  why would the fly the second plane all the
way from Boston?

Sorry, but there is no comparing the sheer density of people working in the
WTC complex compared to the area of debris an airplane would had done if
shot down.  What happened yesterday is the scenario that caused the most
lives to be lost.  Airplanes have crashed in urban populated areas in the
past, and caused less then hundreds of lives on the ground.

Pentagon now... 3rd plane!?

Remember, they chose a specific type of airliner.  A Boeing 767.  The
pilots had to be trained.  They had to be briefed.  So they chose 4 planes
of the same type that all left at approximentally the same time or within a
window of invulnerability(due to lack of information) to launch their
attacks.

but planes take off from Dulles all the time, no?  I don't see the
problem...
