ICR2, no luck with Indyfast, please help

by Yoshiki Mo » Sun, 19 Jan 1997 04:00:00

Hi all,

I have just finished upgrading my computer.  Everything seems to work well
except ICR2.  Indysafe works well, and I am impressed with the quality of the
graphics and frame rate.  But I know that Indyfast is better, and I'd like to
get it working.  It goes in and gives "pretty" rendition-ready screen, then I
get "pixel-dust."  I am using version of indycar.exe I downloaded from
Intergraph's web site.

Here's what I have.

Asus P/I-P55T2P4 Rev. 3.1 w/ 512k cache (Asus module)
IBM 686 P166+ (133) CPU
32 Meg EDO RAM
Intergraph Reactor Card(Who said it doesn't work well in Win95? It's Super!)
Sound Blaster 16 compatible sound card
8X CD ROM (PIO mode 3)

My config.sys does not contain emm386.exe as indysafe requirement.

I'll appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance.

P.S.  Once i get ICR2 running, I'll post all the benchmarks, etc.

I am playing in MS-DOS mode using F8 during the start up.
My ICR2 is located in the d: drive rather than c:
Could that be a cause of the problem?

Is there any special set up I have to do in BIOS?  Should I get a newer
version of the BIOS for the Reactor card?

I'll give it a try.  I'll let you know what happens.

I have no idea.  I'll ask Chris.

Thanks Julian

I'm sure your problem is  your IBM/Cyrix P166 cpu.  The Cyrix version
doesn't run indyfast, so I'm sure the IBM version won't either.  If I
am wrong, please correct me, because I would love to get an IBM cpu if
they will run indyfast.

The preferred method is starting Win95, then shutting down to DOS
mode.  Ugly, but for some computers, they need the full Win95 boot to
properly initialize some DMA software.  Either way works for me.

The drive/directory shouldn't be a problem if you originally
installed it there.  Double check your INDYFAST.BAT file to make sure
it's pointing to the proper drive and directory (although
INDYSAFE.BAT, which is functioning for you, should have been created
in the same way at the same time).

When you boot up, the opening screen shows your video BIOS version.
58 was the original issue.  74 was the latest flash BIOS offered (as
of a few weeks ago).  It might help to bring it up to date.  I'd try
this only if other options don't work (or if you are experiencing
other problems).

Have you tried DMADiag or DMATest?  These are diagnostic programs
(I think they are basically the same program).  Some people have
reported that they have been able to run the diagnostic and then run
INDYFAST, if they had previously been unable to run INDYFAST
(apparently similar to the DMA initialization mentioned above).  Worth
a try.  The programs are availabe on Eric Busch's or David Sparks' web
sites.  Good luck!

Before you send me UCE, I know what you're thinking...  Did he complain
to five or six postmasters last month?  Now, you must ask yourself one
question: "Do I feel lucky?"  Well, do you, punk?
