Apologies if this has already been posted here, but there are some
great onboard vids of David Farmer racing a Corvette Z06 in the
Speedvision World Challenge GT series here:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

These are full races onboard at places like Sebring,Road
Atlanta,Mosport,Laguna Seca,Sears Point,Lime Rock.,etc.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the link - - I particularly recommend the Road Atlanta vid for
anyone who ever wondered what the track really looks like between T1 and T6,
since you sure wouldn't know from any game. ;-)

Laguna on the other hand, looks just about like it does in the Milestone SBK
versions that have ended up getting ported to the EA F1 sims and  related
mods.  Milestone certainly did great tracks for the SBK series; wonder how
they're coming along with that F1 sim they're working on?  Hmmm...

While the version in the game isn't 100% accurate, it's also not the
version that exists today.  There are a few corners that are
substantially different from what Noonan was modelling.

Damn I am truly impressed now with both the GPL layout of Mosport and
PWF's modifications to it.  Aside from the run to Moss and the
Andretti straight being a bit flatter now, Mosport_PWF is pretty damn
spot on.  It's also interesting to see the lines they drive in those
cars, as it's clear they're braking way earlier and harder than we do
in PTA.

That is so awesome!  Why can't anyone recreate the sound of compressoin
braking of a V8 or v6 engine.  These engines (I guess due to the use of a
high lift cam) seem to run very erratically, always poping and cracking,
never idling smoothy.  I love it.  Thanks for the link.

The Road America is good for reference as well - the EA version also appears
to be closer to the real deal than the Papy conversion.  The 3d version made
for F1C is pretty awesome.

If you like Mosport - check out Lime Rock on GPL - an incredibly accurate
representation. Not to be confused with LRw/Twist for N2003/TPTCC which,
though very well done, is not exactly accurate.  Tell me you can't learn
tracks from some of the better models done for games.

Wasn't so much referring to Noonan's version in particular, as it pretty
much goes for all the versions I've seen - none of them do it justice.  The
only real changes to RA over the years have been the addition of the 10-11
"chicane", the new pits and the recent chicane in the 2/3 area that was
added for the motorbikes (not used by cars).  Been going there since the
early 80's, and was at the track the day after that video was shot.  Much
better weather; got major sunburn... ;-)

The biggest problems are that the sim corners between 1 and 6 aren't sharp
enough, and the elevations are all wrong.  For instance, if you stand just
back of the right hander that drops down into the esses, the cars just fall
right out of sight after the apex.  1 is up, you crest at 2, then mildly
downhill thru 3, and then the bottom drops out exiting 4.  The bottom of the
esses is in fact the lowest point on the track, some 150 feet lower than the
crest before T12.  And the rise out of 5 is very steep.

The corner elevations and data are always posted in the pits, but I never
can remember to write the stuff down.  From memory, the drop from 12 and the
rise to 1 are right at 6% grades, while the drop from 4 and the rise out of
5 are steeper and shorter.  The s/f straight looks pretty flat but drops
about 30 feet.  The T12 drop is exactly 60 feet.

Hope someone nails it one of these days.

That's because they don't have the grip turned up to 1.08...  ;-)

Isnt it a wide known fact that 'realism' and 'Noonan' don't really go well
together...?

Altthough the GPL version is good - it still got it's flaws.

The N2003 stuff tho - is "pure fictional".

How accurate is the SCGT Road Atlanta?

I fell in love with this track based on this game, but obviously it may not
bare much resemblance to reality . . .

I've got more laps of the RW LRP than anybody except Sam Posey, and Brent's
version is as close to right as anybody's ever gotten.  But yer right: the
N2003 version is a joke, capturing neither the geography nor the rhythm.

They DO pop and bang; in F1C et seq. you can even model the volume
independently.  And it's duration (the intake-exhaust overlap), not lift or
compression.

I posted that before checking the RA video out.  I didn't realize the
first few turns were that far off.  That's pretty bad.
