Backmarkers Racing League - coming soon!

All you slow, but honest and motivated drivers - I wasn't lying when I
said I wanted to run a GPL/N4 server for the rest of us.

ISDN went in yesterday - dial-on-demand works great.  Still have to
bury a cable to my house (I'm sharing the connection with a low-usage
internet user).
Rebuilt my Win2K server to clean up the ***when it was my internet
router - still have to get the mailing list (for race schedules and
passwords) and the actual race server software installed.
FYI - it's a PIII-450 w/160mb RAM - anyone see a problem with this
serving GPL or N4 (never simultaneously)?

Also got my AMD 1.4 T-bird in my *** system - damn is it sweet :)!
Running slightly overclocked (AMD appears to be shipping the top CPU's
unlocked from the factory :)! - and its a retail w/3yr warranty)
Waiting for the copper H/S to see it really scream.

I'll keep everyone posted - anyone wanting to help me test out the
server when it's online feel free to email me!

Great Idea, but how are you going to keep out the Rif-Raff?  You know the
type...Alien Spaceship lowers a figure onto the track, it jumps in a Green
Lotus and blows away all the Backmarkers in practice.  Then disappears after
the race...speaks a strange language like Huttu and Wolfie and
trailbraking...Gotta keep those types off of your server...

Doesn't Rambo's GPaL have a feature to kick the polesitter before the
start of the race ;)?

Am I going to have to treat the hotshoes like the Wrecking Crew ;)?

Kendt,

This sounds great. What are the requirements for getting in? Is my
+94.28 GPLRank bad enough? ;-)

The only potential problem I might see is the speed of the ISDN line.
I assume it is 128k dual channel which isn't a lot of bandwidth,
especially if you have people playing on cable and DSL. I don't know
the BW requirements of GPL though so this might not be a problem...

128kbps upstream is enough for hosting about 8-9 players. Not a lot
really...

Hmm - might have to use the home server for pickup races/practices.
I've got full access to a dual-866 PIII machine w/512mb RAM on a
friend's DSL service (currently running a Counterstrike and Action HL
server).  I'll look into getting that setup.  Work is also a
possibility, but I'll have to talk to the boss.
