Force Feedback Failure in GPL

by flyt4tm » Mon, 05 Nov 2001 23:44:35

I have been driving Grand Prix Legends, with Force Feedback enabled and have
edited the core.ini file successfully with the tweaks found on various
pages. I'm using the Guillemot (Thrustmaster) Ferrari Force Feedback Wheel.

The problem I encountered after making the changes to the core.ini file are
that after a few minutes of driving, the force feedback effects no longer
can be felt...and the wheel, while useful when driving still, has no force
feedback whatsoever.

In 'Game Controllers' in the control panel, the wheel is there and the
status is OK, I even can select to test the gain settings by pressing
various buttons, but even pressing these buttons does not simulate the Force
Feedback at all. The only way to re enable force feedback is to shut off the
wheel and turn it back on, or reboot my computer. any suggestions as to how
I can track down this problem, as it only exists when I run Grand Prix
Legends?

Anyone else ever run into this problem? Thanks.

Do you have your control panel settings properly (for GPL and N4, but
nothing else) set to 100% overall, 0% spring, 0% damping and no centring
spring?

If not, try that, although you will have to start over in the tweaking
process to get the FFB to feel the way you like it in GPL.

Also, make sure you are NOT using the piece-of-shit "Wheel Editor".  If it
is running in the background, it will cause all sorts of problems.

Force Feedback Failure in GPL

Hey  flyt4tmn!

I had the same problem with my wheel and GPL. The problem was that my
Logitec FF wheel was defective. Logitech new that problem and sent me
another wheel and told me to keep the other one anyway.

So I open up the defective wheel and found the problem. On the FF
motor there's a thermistor that shut off the motor whenever it's
becoming to hot. That is why when you shut off the wheel you do a
reset on the cut off circuit. I have bypass the thermistor and
everything is working now. If you don't feel confident to run without
the thermistor protection buy 1 nutch higher value from Digi-key and
install it instead...

Hope it can help,

Join the club....
I was baffled by this aswell after i got my guillemot racing wheel.
It is some sort of bug in the drivers or hardware  but guillemot
doesn't know the cause...i was in contact with their support
department.
I bet you have it into the USB port...
Stick it into the serial port and all your probs will be gone...and FF
won't fail anymore.

Ain't it lovely that win XP doesn't support serial devives:(
And ain't it lovely that thrustmaster drivers are so totally crap, the
3.08 ones....which completely screwed my system.
I'm running the win2000 drivers now...but those have a problem with
split axis...
Which i'd bought a logitech wheel...

And i wish damned XP was more gamer friendly...
Can't really use my wheel anymore cause of the split axis thing and
the loss of devices via serial port.
Can't use my CH flight gear anymore cause win XP has a problem with
that too..

grumble grumble moan moan

cheers
