RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP - AN APOLOGY (kind of...)

by Wildcar » Tue, 23 Nov 1999 04:00:00

Ok...so I posted a few days ago under the aggressively titled "Rally
Championshit..oops" ...and now I'm tryin' to make amends...

Sure, I bought the game...and having expected and WANTED so much from it,
was kinda initially disappointed with the physics, realism and so on (it's
been covered ..er...comprehensively (!) over the recent hours...

So an apology ?

Well...if the truth be known....erm...if you sit down and actually spend a
bit of time with the game, getting to learn how to compensate for the
obvious (but strangely less and less annoying) errors, the game actually
becomes quite challenging...

DON'T GET ME WRONG !!!! It still needs addressing on the areas that we all
now know are a ball ache...but as we ALL were hoping for this to be so
good...well IMO the more you stick at it...it CAN be rewarding...

As to mentioning David Fisher...well I have...there...so that in itself
should open up a few lines of debate, but all those who were as initially
dispappointed as I was, I would suggest having another go...for it's faults,
it's fun until one of the other wannabe's comes along...

All the best
:)

Exactly my experience! (And well said.) After being very frustrated in the
beginning (read my earlier posts...) I'm now an RC2000 ***. The game is
awesome. Doing it right and winning the title will require some GPL-like
dedication. ;-) This is no easy arcade ride! And to make it complete (we
don't upgrade our computer every 6 months for nothing, do we!), it's got
some of the most beautiful graphics I've ever seen in any title (during my
first complete rally I really wished I could stop and just look at the
scenery every now and then, instead of rushing by). Give it the game a
change...

Er, oops... 'change' should be 'chance'... Although a change in the form of
a patch would be appreciated... :-)

I think this summarise perfectly what RC2k is.  It is the best Rally title
on the market by far.  I miss the pendulum effect that I actually felt on
gravel road in that Volvo 850T (that is really well done in CMR, even if
unaccurate), I miss the extreme damage I should have and plenty other
failures which makes it excellent, not incredible.  But still, excellent is
something that any company should be proud of achieving from my high
standards 8)
