Hi all,

Just started out on GPL (as it been re-released in DVD case) and its a
blast I must admit. One thing that puzzles me is that the car (basic
trainer BRM) only has 4 gears in Training mode yet has more when on a
Single Race. I ' ve looked through the manual on this but can't find
an explanation...can you put me straight on this please guys?

Cheers,

Pete

With the default setup of GPL you can only race the Formula 1 (Grand Prix)
cars.  The Basic (Formula 3) and Advanced (Formula 2) cars can only be used
in training mode.  The F3 cars all have 4 gears.  The F2 cars all have 5
gears.  Of the F1 cars only the BRM has 6 gears.

If you want to race the F3 and F2 cars, I suggest you visit the home of F2
racing, JC's, at http://jc.simracing.dk and click on the Beginner's Guide to
F2/FD.  In there go to the section "How to race F2/FD" and follow the
instructions.

Also if you want some more reading visit my beginner's article at

In a race, you don't have a choice of which platform you want...trainer, or
advanced, or grand prix.  But in the "training" mode you do.

Now...after having said that...there is a way to set up your GPL so you CAN
race in "Training" or "Advanced" mode.  You need to generate two extra
drivers, and then go into one of the .ini files and make a couple of
modifiations to a couple of the lines.

Here are the steps:

Setting up to drive F2 Online.

This is a simple process and if you do things as per the instructions here,
you will not affect your original Grand prix car settings.

Fire up your copy of GPL and go to the player info Screen. Create a new
player name. I suggest something like 'Your name_f2'.

Exit GPL and from windows explorer or My Computer, go to
Sierra/GPL/Players/Your name_f2 folder - the profile that you have just
created.

In this folder you will find a file called player.ini (it might just read
player). Open this file in any text editor and scroll down to a section
called [Personal Information]. In this section you will see a line
.......driver rating = 3. Change this setting to read driver rating = 2.
Save the file and exit.

To go back to driving f1 cars, simply change back to your original name from
within GPL and your original settings will be restored.

BTW. To set up to race an F3 car, (Trainer) simply repeat the above with
another new driver name only this time, change the line in the driver.ini
file to driver rating = 1.

Hope this helps...
