WRC 2001 quick review

hi,

1st, it's a shame to waste the full wrc licence in such a ***game.

- physics is pure arcade, it's seems to be a 1 dot physics. car motion
seems to be a ANIMATION !!, at 180kmh it feel like you're driving at
50kmh, road are very wide. You can drive ( not pilot ) all the tracks
without touching the brakes,it's not matter to go through the curve at
6th gear.
- graphics, montecarlo is almost nice, but the other country are ugly,
no vertex shadow, poor pre-lighting !
- sound, there some fake stuff that make the sound great but the main
engine sound , sound like a mosquito.
other sound like, sliding, copilot ,transmissions are okeys.
- scenery animation are a joke, for exemple, in kenya the zebras are
silted up to the knees, they move stupidly their head up and down, and
the WORST, you can collide with your car on them, the zebras ( 200kg )
don't move at all and your car ( 1230kg ) make sparks when you slide on
the zebras !!!!
- no carreer mode, it's only a championnship mode.
- gameplay, when you'r out of the main road , you are put back in the
main road in after 3 secondes ... the track are very shorts, finished in
2 minutes .

Conclusion, IMHO don't buy this thing.

ps : this review is purely subjective, so we need other review.

Come on you would say that wouldn't you? ;-)
I'm not disagreing with you, I haven't even tried WRC yet but I think it's a
bit rich coming from the game developers that brought us the***poor
V-Rally 2 (the origonal was a nice game in it's day though)

I agree, VR2 PC is crap, certainly because we not used specific PC graphics
ressources .
Anyway i'm a very bad musician, and if i hear very bad music i'll tell you that
it's
bad music.
Do you think that the "journalists" who reviews the games are good developers ?
Do you insinuate that i said that IMHO WRC 2001 is ***because it's our
rival in rally game ?

when i post in r.a.s it's ALWAYS my personal opinions that are engaged.

So no animals were harmed during the making of that game then. ;-)

I have yet to see a rally "sim" that makes me go ga ga.

hopefully (and i'm keeping my fingers triple crossed for this one) Rally
Trophy is the GPL of rally games.

Rally trophy, is a a good rally game, good in term of physics, but it's not
a rally SIM as GPL is a SIM. Certainly is the most accurate at this time,
but it's not a sim.

IMHO.

I never drove F1, or 67 F1, but i drove "rally" type cars, and if a rally
sim exist it's easy to know, you can't drive it the car 100%, a rally car is
very difficult to drive especially at 100% and on rally tracks ( narrow,
bumpy ).

Sorry Cyril it isn't, it is the best of a bad lot but GPL is more than good
physics it is a whole package. Great replay system, nice menu, controller
and setup system, incredible physics, great graphics, great cars and tracks,
good AI and brilliant internet play. It really is almost perfect (for it's
day).

Rally Trophy has decent physics and very nice graphics, but the rest is a
big letdown, it's no GPL of rally games maybe more like F12001 of rally
games.

that's what i gathered after playing the demo just now.

oh well, more money into my WRC models =)

you said that GPL was perfect in its day, have there been recent releases
that took its place?  (i haven't been following this sim thing for a while)

thx

There's N4, it has improved and added to the GPL physics engine, the
graphics engine is better and in every way it is a little better than GPL.
But it's simulating NASCARs and only has two none ovals, so imo GPL is still
better because the cars and tracks are more fun and chalenging.

But WSC is on the way and it may take GPL's crown, and there's a stron rumor
that GPL 1972 is on the way :-)

Free Racer, its a freeware car simulator, very realistic.
There's no gamemode, only the pleasure to pilot, tha's mean, there's a car, a
track and a chronometer ;o)
