Just about ready to chuck this game in the bin because of problems

I really am getting sick of this game, I bought F1 2001 because I like
racing games, I like F1, I liked the shots I saw of the GT mod.

But since I got it last week I have had nothing but trouble with it. First
it it wouldn't recognise the throttle on my joystick, no force feedback and
occasionaly boots to the desktop when trying to load a track.

Found the patch, woohoo I though, I have FF, it recognises my throttle....
for a few seconds.

Everytime I want to start a race I ahve to go into options and and set my
throtle up again, even though it says it's assigned to the Z axis, in the
game it won't actually work. I have to go back to options and set it
again... this is so annoying and you can imagine how frustratiing when even
after setting it, there's no certaintity it will work.. you start a race and
have no control over acceleration at all... I haven't be able to complete
more than 1 20% racebecause of this so far.

Then after downloading and installing the GT V2 mod, I cannot get it to work
at all, every time I load a track it crashes back to the desktop.

Frustrated is an understatement... fecking pissed off would be an
understatement.

I am seriously ready to bin this game and never buy a racing game on the PC
again... let alone a game from EA.

At least when I had GP3 it worked out of the box, and everything worked...
especially the joystick throttle. In fact every single racing game I have
ever bought has worked out of the box on my computer in the last 5 years...
except this fecking piece of shit.

My specs
KT7A-Raid
Athlon 1.4ghz
256MB ram
Voodoo 5 5500
SB Live 5.1
WinTV PCI card
56k Modem
2x 40GB WD HD's
Win2K
Logitech Wingman Force (Works perfectly in every other game I use it for)

I have latest/up to date drivers for everything, including via 4in1 drivers.
Temps are good for my system, have plenty of cooling in the case...
Everything else works perfectly. This is the only game that won't.

Getting split-axis in F1 2001 working was a bit of a hassle, and when
I finally got it working (I'll spare you a long story unless you
really want to know) I had a major deadzone, amongst other problems
with the ff. Setting the pedals to single-axis removed the deadzone,
and also the pedals-sometimes-not-working problem seemed to disappear,
but I don't like driving with single-axis in a serious sim :-/
