F1RS w/ Matrox m3D???

by Robin Chu » Sun, 05 Apr 1998 04:00:00

Can anyone comment on the differences between running f1RS w/ a 3Dfx vs. a
Matrox M3D (powerVR) 3D card?

I have a lowly Matrox Mystique 220 and I am considering adding an m3D
matrox card (powerVR).  Does the Direct3D support in f1RS utilize the
extra 3D feature set of the PowerVR (vs. the limited set on the Mystique?)

Or should I save up and get a 3dFX voodoo2 (lotsa bucks though)

Instead of considering a Matrox M3D or Voodoo2, why not consider a
Voodoo1 card? It'll still be better than the Matrox M3D and you'll be
able to pick em up at a decent price these days. Some 3Dfx website's
have forums specifically for people looking for second hand Voodoo1
cards. Try Operation 3Dfx.

On the other hand, if your interested in the upcoming GPL then a
voodoo II may be par for the course and Papy are even recomending the 12
meg card at that!

Grab a Monster 3d I while you still can. You can find them for less than 100
bucks easy. I use it with my Mystique with great results. The Mystique is
not a bad card at all coupled with the Voodoo I chipset.
