Upon reading the article below, I decided to try the Monster3D (3dfx
Voodoo) from Diamond. I had recently augmented my 2MB Millenium card with
Matrox m3D daughter card. As Mike notes below, there is NO comparison. You
really can't even say that the difference is night and day, since night and day
are related. The Matrox m3D is a pitiful upgrade compared to the Diamond
Monster3D. It cost me another 60 USD, but more than worth it. I've extended
the *** life of my aging Pentium 166 (no MMX, 64MB).
I downloaded the 3D benchmark suite from PC magazine (http://www.racesimcentral.net/).
The Monster3D overall score was twice as good (200%) with certain tests running
up to 4000% better. Whew !!!
Of course the real test is in running the games. All I can say is AWESOME...
Hey, I can drive again (much better frame rates).
If you have a Millenium and want to experience some of the newer games, my
recommendation is the Diamond Monster3D.
Oh yeah, I do NOT work for Diamond... but, I can't wait for the Voodoo-2.

Ed Reynolds

Its a shame you decided to purchase the Matrox in lieu of a 3DFx card. You
saved yourself $50, but the difference between the two is night and day.
Plus, its unlikely that you'll see any large scale native support for the
Matrox like what is currently available for 3Dfx.
