How about my problem. Being called "Smith" makes it incredibly difficult to
come up with some unused variation.

Well, since I've never been the victim of a stalker, I guess I don't worry
about it as much as some do.  I just find it hard to believe that someone is
going to stalk you just because they got your username from a GAME server...

<GrinGrinGrinGRINgriNgriNgriN>

aren't you aware of the EVILS of *** on the internet? if you put your
full name out there, then someone would actually be able to poison the
specific bag of cat/dog/kid/grandmother food that you buy.

they showed how easy this could be done on 60 minutes, btw!  said, the
epickett server newly changed to rascar was a notorious luring spot for the
non-paranoids.

server...

I won't post the gritty details because you possibly wouldn't sleep for a
week, but my friend made a rather unstable 'enemy' in an online ***
'community', it got messy & the authorities got involved.

Since that incident I guess my own perception of the safety of 'anonimity on
the net' changed, but the change was enough for me to use a nickname mainly
online, where before I used my real name.

Well, my address is already all over the place,  you can find
my halfway exact enough coordinates on my web page  or in my
sig, so a phone book search later you'd have my real name, my
home address, whatever.

Call me naive, but I've been on the internet since 1990, and I
recall it being a friendly place back in those days (heck, most
unix boxes had open "guest" accounts back then!). All those
"net" problems tend to be problems of real people using the
net, just like real people using the public roads and causing
all sorts of problems.

In racing, I have nothing to hide, and I guess that goes for
most of my fellow racers out there, too.

Cheers,

uwe

Or maybe not!

I expect it was already used. In the end I used the slightly silly
'Scuderia Smitty'. I was guarenteed that no one would use that :-)

No problem, I'll get it renamed and uploaded by tomorrow. That's a cool
carset by the way, I had to have it.

That's actually something I worry about as I used to always use my full
name when I posted to newsgroups. I haven't had any problems yet in the
six years I've ben doing this stuff. Needless to say, all my newsgroup
posts just have my first name in the header now.

I made a couple of posts posing as Greg Biffle to this newsgroup one
night when I'd too much to drink. That was right after the RASCAR
Bristol race, and I was venting my frustrations because I was involved
in an accident after a restart. I've done a couple of RASCAR races, and
I learned I don't belong on short tracks. Anyways, getting back to the
original subject, I guess I just can't stand not knowing what the hell
my user ID and password are. This way I always know my ID at least. I
got sick of all the post-it notes on my monitor.

See ya' at the track!
