Idea for GPL add-on pack

The future of Spectator Online racing is one that every Sim driver hopes
to see.  However, as far as the "commercial" aspect, Without it we will never
know about it to participate in it as a spectator.  Case in point.. I didn't
know anything about the Quake spectator event.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see some live online racing as a
spectator with out commercials taking place during that important pass for
the lead.

Topi Paavola a crit :

I did'nt know that was existing yet (in another domain),
but it was exactly the kind of computer architecture, that I was imagining
...

and don't have to suffer from speakers commentaries too...

and it would be surely more exciting for drivers !

another point is the interactivity : on a "GPL TV live", spectator could
choice camera, which driver he wants to follow,
all we cannot do on TV (except cable TV, very expensive in my country).

I don't mind some commercial involvement. There are at least two
professional *** leagues (CPL and PGL), and the demos from Quake
finals are always entertaining to watch. The really big events, like
the Clan 9 vs Deathrow game, actually draw sponsors like flies and are
usually reported on the main Quake sites; www.bluesnews.com,
www.shugashack.com and www.planetquake.com are the best ones.
www.truegamers.com has information about any major international
  events.

However, that is only a small part of it and the world-wide live
broadcasts have been rare so far. The best thing about built-in
spectator modes is that you can hop into your favourite server
whenever you like, watch from the POV of any player or driver and chat
with other spectators. (Gamers have no social life? Not true :)

I think if they had a smaller viewing window with banner ads running
throughout the race would be cool.  I know that TEN/NROS is difinately
wanting to move this way.  They feel that this a critical issue that
must be addressed for the long term success of that series.  Much easier
to attract and retain sponsors and advertisers with this type of
service.

Hey Mike, we're in the same boat :-) Where are you? I'm in Hayes, near
Bromley. Not sure of the actual distance but it's about 20 minutes
drive.

And speaking of Brands, I'm going there for the BOSS formula race on
Monday! Should be cool.....

How about changing the advertising boards in the game..!! A sponsor could
position their ads around the track that would be visible to both the
spectator and the drivers. You could have multiple sponsorship deals for a
race, sponsorship of the drivers, with logo's on their cars, (built into
their paintjobs). This could go global, wow....watch out Bernie, here I
come...

Yepo Bill.  The NROS is at the research of plans on this side to attract
sponsors.  They are thinking about developing tools for that, but at the
moment the  only really deal would be car advertising.  If you look at per
example the TEN Family games (Java thingy), you will note that Pepsi is a
big sponsor of this, with a Pepsi lounge, and a deck of card with Pepsi logo
on it (and be sure that it works, I buy Pepsi and not Coke just because they
support TEN (ok well "ALSO" because there will be Star Wars Pepsi can, but
that's another thing heheh)).

I like the idea about changing the billboard, but something you need to
think is that billboards would be made only to target the people watching
and the driver. You don't have any fans in the stands, but fans watching the
TV cameras.  Thus you need to TV camera angle where you can see the best
those billboards.  Well maybe at first they could do it the easy way but
after expand with better camera angle (easy to edit).

The future of this is big... very very big (just imagine in 4-5years).

If I could add one thing to GPL it would be the ability to race against
a ghost of a saved lap.  I find this is the best way to learn where you can
improve and better your times while adding unlimited single-player replay
value.   Ultimate Race Pro and Pod had nice "ghost racer" features.

Even something like built-in split-time reports would be nice.
(Similar to the utility that someone created recently...I forget the name of
it)   I've been able to improve on some times that have stood for quite a
while once I used this utility and examined lap "sections".

The add on pack could allow sponsors to put their adverts on the Various boards
about thye track and even the drivers cars. This could be acheived outside the
"time space" of the race and thus not incurs any bandwidth issues.
Cheers,
Paul
