Viper Help Needed

by Scott B. Huste » Mon, 14 Dec 1998 04:00:00

Hello,

Im having a problem with Viper racing Online.   I only have a 33,600
modem connection but it works fine for TEN, etc.   However... whenever I
run Viper Racing Online... by car jumps all over the place.  The other
cars are not "flying" around by I can see the steering wheel on the
screen jump all around and hence my car jumps all around.  I do not have
this problem offline.  Offline my steering is as smooth as can be.  Im
using a TM NASCAR Pro wheel.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

BTW...  this happens both when Im hosting and when I connect to someone
else.  Even when the host has a cable modem.

    Hi Scott,

Try unchecking the box "Poll with Interrupts Enabled" on the "Game
Controllers" control panel.  It sounds like the modem is interrupting the
joystick read.

Off the subject but...

Hint - If you have warp problems on TEN, force your modem to connect at
19,200.

You will be amazed at how good your latency is at this speed (ignore the
messages NROS gives you when a race starts).

I have not warped once since doing this.

It's because the number of retries are nearly non-existant compared to
higher connection rates...

Does your modem have a re-train indicator (Like the courier ARQ light)?

High speeds can actually work against you if you are experiencing a lot
of re-tries.  Try forcing the modem to connect at 28.8 or 26.4 and see
if it improves.

Larry,

Thanks but my connection to TEN is rock solid =)   BTW...  Im using all
default Win95 settings except MTU and connect at 33,600 everytime to
Earthlink.   I seldom have any warp (usually other drivers) and Ive been
booted less than 15 or 16 times in over 12 months =)

Its just Viper Racing where my steering is "hopping".

Thanks,
Scott
