Nascar Sprint Wheel??

by Jaso » Sat, 05 Dec 1998 04:00:00

Hi,
I just saw this thing in the store the other day, and it looks sort of
cheap, but I was wondering if anyone out there has one or has heard about
them? Are they any good?
They aren't force feedback, and the pedal base is very small, but I'm really
not a serious sim driver, I'd just like something to use other than my
Xterminator gamepad. :)
Any info/input on this wheel would be appreciated.
Thanks!

The Sprint is Thrustmaster's "upgrade" for their GP1 wheel.  I wouldn't
buy the unit for the pedals, they are sort of a "throw away" bonus.  If
you want to drive with the gas and brake on the paddles behind the wheel
(ala GP1), go for the Sprint.  It's a very good wheel for the price.
However, if you are looking for real pedals, make the upgrade to
Thrustmaster's NASCAR Super Sport (approx $20 U.S. more than the
Sprint).  It's a much better wheel and the pedals are also good.

Jason, as Michael said, this is an entry level unit but it is a
Thrustmaster and therefore more useful than most of the stuff
you'll find on the shelf.  Personally I kinda like the
wheel-mounted paddles for wheel/brake... and again echoing
Michael's comments, consider the floor pedals a throw-away (okay
for arcade stuff, but if/when you get serious they'll be
useless).

I think it would be a giant step up from your gamepad.  Or if
you're looking for something just to get your feet wet, I think I
saw the original Thrustmaster GP1 in WaldenSoftware for 30
bucks... IMHO the Sprint is not worth the extra 30 (selling for
60 bucks here) for the casual gamer.
