NASCAR Sprint Wheel Oddness

by tbret » Sun, 23 Jul 2000 04:00:00

I've had a Thrustmaster NASCAR Sprint wheel for a couple of years now.  It's
not great, but it gets the job done for me.  Or it did.  Recently, however,
I've noticed a bit of odd behavior from it.  In short, it doesn't seem to
want to stay completely connected, electronically, that is.  The practical
upshot of it is that I'll calibrate the wheel, go into a game, and within a
few minutes discover that my accelerator is stuck open.  Needless to say,
this isn't improving my driving.

When I go back to the control panel to re-calibrate the wheel, there's a
screen that shows game controller status.  For a second or so, it reads
"Unknown", then switches to "OK".

My suspicion is that this may be due to a Direct X incompatibility.  When DX
7 came out, Thrustmaster had to provide a patch to allow their control panel
utility to function properly.  However, I saw nothing that addressed this
new problem on their website, so I thought I'd ask about it here where I
actually stand a chance of getting an answer.

Bear in mind that while I'm technically savvy enough to suspect a Direct X
incompatibility, I am probably not skilled enough to actually fix it.
