Damn you beat me to it ;-)

Fast server right now too, big thanks to Paul Jackson & Speegeezers for
hosting, particularly after the recent problems.

Currently a bit puzzled. It seems to do a lot of installing, and Igor
works fine, but I don't seem to have a 65mod anywhere I can find. Must
look harder :-)

Maybe it's because GPL isn't installed on my machine, merely copied from
an old installation.

Could be that, but also make sure to select it in gem 2+.

You should have a pile of new (and mostly unnecessary) exe's in your
GPL folder.  Make a shortcut to gpl65.exe and call it "Grand Prix
Legends 1965" or some such.  I'm not sure why there's not an icon for
it made by default for offline use.

Thanks guys, turns out I missed something rather obvious... the GEM+
installed screen sat behind all my windows! :-) <blush> Igor just fired up
after what I thought was full installation and I wasn't looking for
something else.

How embarrassing :-)

Another thing, at least for me, sometimes I could swear I pick one mod,
but when I fire up gpl, its some other anyway.
Pick it again in gem, and its fine.  Probably just operator error, but its
happened more than once.
Not a big deal, but anyway.

p.s.  You don't have to use gem if you don't want too; Jason's idea works
just as well.

I made the same mistake. There's one option to choose the carset (ie
just the graphics) and another to change the physics.

I'm sure it will, but GEM+ seems to be an excellent interface. Very nice
work from the team, and I've already thrown a donation into the pot for
their efforts.

My first impressions, having only driven a few practise laps and the start
of a race at Monza so far, is that I'm unlikely to drive this much long
term for the same reasons F2 never really grabbed me (even though I
appreciated the class's contribution to online racing). The graphics are
great (the track updates are nice, wringing more out of this old format,
the cars are excellent, and I love the 3d modelling on the wheels from
inside the***pit), the integration with GEM & Igor is brilliant, but the
performance of these cars leaves me fairly cold. The animal appeal of GPL
for me has always been intimately tied up with that moment when you hit
the pedal and unleash the engine power through those inadequate tyres. The
knowledge that you're likely to go nowhere other than sideways if you get
it wrong is still part of the thrill.

Online though 65 could be a great recipe for closer F2-style racing. And
if the mod helps beginners (there still are some, after all these years)
and revives some interest in those, like me, who've been too busy flying
Lomac or playing Far Cry, then that can't do any harm. I just need to
learn to appreciate a less tense driving experience :-) Of course it's
that which drew me deep into GPL in the first place!

It's great that this mod's been developed. Thanks to everyone concerned.
I'm going to give it a few weeks and see if I can't convert my brain to
these things. I guess I've driven LFS more than GPL in recent months, and
GPL has started to feel very slippery after LFS's modelling (for obvious
reasons). But I'm never going to be able to hold 65 *and* 67 brake points
in my head at once. It's bad enough trying to keep up to speed with 67 :-)

Andrew McP

FWIW when I start at the back of a 65mod race grid behind the AI I have no
***pit (or vehicle in the F10 view) until I'd driven a few yards... over
the start/finish line it seems. Normal 67 works fine. No doubt a vid card
driver issue... I'm kind of used to them with GPL though after all these
years :-)

Yeah, I kind of felt the same way at first, but it grows on ya.
Especially the twisty tracks, Mosport, MC, Zandy, etc.  Great stuff in these
cars.  Once you get the hang of it, you can actually drift, etc. more than
with the 67 version, and it somehow feels more realistic to me when doing
so.

Chances are the server had some settings wrong for that to happen.  Try
again, and check the Client Authentication info. before you join, and see
what it says.
