Midtown Madness Mess

This thing must take some power!  I installed Midtown Madness yesterday, and
saw something I haven't seen in a long time.  Choppy playback, actual
freezing to draw a new screen even on the default settings, it's awful.
Even on my system:
Celeron 300A bumped to 450 (yes, full fans.  Never goes past 89F)
64 MB PC100 RAM
Matrox Mystique 4 MB (admittedly a weak point)
Creative Voodoo2 12MB
Ensoniq PCI sound
24X cd-rom
5 gig of open disk space

Any ideas on how to make this thing run smoothly?  Surely I'm doing
something wrong.....

Thanks,
cp2

Read the readme file. I talks specifically about the Matrox cards and the
problems that Midtown Madness has with them. I personally own a 8 MG Matrox
Millenium (sp) and am unable to run the game in hardware mode at all. I know
the Mystic is listed as having problems as well... hold on I will check
readme for you....

From Readme:
"? Matrox Millennium video card. When using this card, Midtown Madness sets
the Renderer setting (Graphic Options) to Software Renderer. It is not
possible to run Midtown Madness with any hardware-based renderer settings
with this card.
? Matrox Millennium II and Mystique video cards. When using these cards,
Midtown Madness turns off Cloud Shadows and Vehicle Reflections (Options
menu-Graphics options). Also, night and weather effects may look better if
your Renderer setting is set to Software Renderer."

Had no problem running 1024x768, max details and everything with a P2-400
and 2 Voodoo2 problems.  A P2-350 ran it fine at 800x600 and max details
with a Voodoo2 8 meg.

Not that the graphics are anything special, IMO they actually are not all
that great..but networked game play is an absolute blast.

The problem is the 64 megs of memory.  With some systems and Windows, that
is still not quite enough to run this (and many other recent) games.  Memory
is cheap.  Get yourself up to at least 96 and you will make life easier.

It's your memory. You really need at least 96MB RAM to run this game without
a lot of stuttering. I play it on a C450A, TNT, 64MB and have the same
problem, but on a friend's P2-400, TNT, 128MB it runs great. (both at
1024x768).
