MS does have a USB version of the Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel.  Its
available at EBworld although it is still  not mentioned on the Sidewinder
site anywhere (including the page detailing the new controllers due out in
October).

Yep, it was quite the stealth release.

Very big of you though to cough up the Grand.

Seriously though, it WAS hard to believe the newsgroup reports until
you held it in your hand, eh? I had the same problem.
