High PO problem in GP3

by Fil » Tue, 31 Jul 2001 08:52:52

Hi,

I've noticed strange problems with my PO under GP3. When I'm
hotlapping in practice mode, after few minutes (don't know exactly) my
avg/max PO goes higher than it should be. I have no background tasks
except software for mouse, and sound card mixer ( SB 64 PCI )

My system is:

soft: Win98SE, DX 8.0a, Det. 6.50, latest SB drivers ...

I use GPxpatch 1.21 or 1.3 without 3D sound feature. I'm running it
from the console mode.

Here's example from GPxlap log:

End lap  2: car 22, racepos  1, PO  44/170%, 0.3s slomo
End lap  2: car 22, racepos  1, PO  45/100%, 0.0s slomo
End lap  2: car 22, racepos  1, PO  45/130%, 0.1s slomo

And than normal PO, after I restarted the game:
End lap  2: car 22, racepos  1, PO  34/ 70%, 0.0s slomo

Has anybody any idea what's wrong ?
It seems like maybe the reloading is a problem, coz in the race my PO
is usually stable on the same level ...

bye

Don't know what the problem is, other than maybe it's the GPxpatch.
Try running without the patch.

it at all when it was overclocked. I had to run it at 400 mhz to get
it running at all. Needless to say, that really sucked.

I'll try, but this is really not an option for me. I need gpxpatch for
leagues, so I can't run GP3 without it.

Like I said, in the race (where I am not reloading the game) the PO is
always OK - on the same level. Somehow in free practice it goes higher
after some time of playing ... Really strange.

I have no problem with stability of my overclocked system. I am using
it for a year, and it's OK (so far :)). I spent many, many hours on
testing  :)

Are you getting any HD activity at the same time?  If so, go to device
manager,  disk drives, highlight  'generic ide 47', properties, settings
tab and make sure DMA is ticked.

Sounds pretty strange indeed. Good luck finding the cause, but it'll
be tricky. Maybe just give your graphics options more room for the
inevitable increase.

My pc was very stable, it was very rare to have a crash or problem.
Only GP3 was like that, and it was completely freaked out, car would
flip up in the air. The physics went bananas. No problem with my new
1ghz tbird though :)

I have this checked all the time (same for my cd and cdrw). Besides,
my HD is inactive while I am playing GP3. But thanks for the
suggestion :)

I just reinstalled GP3, and I came back to older version of Detonator
drivers (now 6.31 installed).  AFAIR I didn't have this problem few
months ago (when I was using older drivers). I'll test it out now, and
I'll see if the problem still occurs.

Thanks,

Hi,

Heh, there are many strange problems with PCs, and sometimes we just
can't find the solution :) For example, my GF2MX card was o/c to
210/190 (clock/memory). And I had absolutely no problems with many
advanced games like Q3 engine, UT and others ... Than I got a simple
3D game, and I was very surprised seeing white dots all over the
screen (too much overclocked memory on the GFX card). So, I had to
slow the card down a little bit :)
