IC2 Demo

Hey Guys,

I think that I am going to love this newsgroup because you guys really
know what you are talking about here. I got Nascar from Papyrus and I
love it. I figured that I might as well try the demo for IC2. Well I am
having problems staying on the tracks and I can't seem to figure out why.
Is it just not set up right(of course I can't set up in the demo) or is
it this way with the commercial version too? Thanks all....

I also want to know if you have any suggestions for shock setup for the
tracks in nascar. Tell me the setup and tell me your top speeds.

up...provided your ***is made of ***...

Welcome to R.A.S.! Things have been a little tense lately due to some
adolescent shennanigans, but there are some very knowledgable people who
hang out here and it doesn't take long to figure out who they are. If you
can wade through the muck, there are some jewels to be found here.

To answer your question, yes, you can change the setups in the retail
version. Also, I'm not sure that Papyrus has updated the demo, so it may
still have the physics bug that makes the car very loose on ovals for about
10-15 mins until the setup tightens up. The latest retail version (1.02) is
much more stable.

Your best bet is to check out a few of the websites around and download the
setups from there. A good place to start is Bill Cranston's website:

     http://www.synapse.net/~crankstr/

Also, I just finished work on a setup guide that you might find helpful.
You can go to the URL in my sig and follow the links from there. Also,
pickup a copy of Jan Kohl's excellent Quick Fix guide from the Pits.

Setups are really a personal thing, I don't think I've ever found one that
I didn't need to tweak to suit my driving style. However, it does help to
see what other people have tried to go a little faster.

IC2 Demo

The ICR2 Demo has probably not changed since it was first released so,
it probably has the original ICR2 physics model which made the car handling
really difficult to deal with. In part this was because they were simulating
the low-downforce rules of the new season, but there was also something
not quite right with the way ICR2 handled the physics model of the back end
of the car.

This was mostly fixed in the ICR 1.02 patch which came out in June. It made
a world of difference in the car handling for me. I like to drive the cars
with a bit of oversteer in the setups, which means I like to hang the back
end out in the corners. With the pre-patch physics model this meant that
once the back end came loose, it was very hard if not impossible to keep
from spinning.

But since the patch, there is much more control in the handling of the cars,
and I have much more fun driving the road courses in ICR2. I can comfortably
hang the back end out in a corner and powerslide through the turn without
getting into a spin most of the time.

My guess however is that the demo did not get this update. You should
also be aware that even after the patch there are some worrisome bugs with
the yellow flags, which still need fixing. Sometimes when there is a yellow,
the computer will make a mistake in the order and this can cause you to
go from 1st place to down a lap or two. This can be very frustrating.
My fix is to play without yellow flags enabled which works fine for me.

In my opinion ICR2 is a terrific sim lots of fun, but be aware that it
still does have some flaws which have not been fixed. It remains to be seen
if Papyrus under its new owner Sierra, will care enough about its open-wheel
customers to come out with a fix for it, or even to continue the ICR series.

I am hoping so.

Cheers.
