it's age too much and it's getting too finnicky to set up. Also, since I
got an LCD monitor, I doubt I'd be able to "zoome" in the image and get rid
of the letterboxing.
Maybe somebody could make an F1 Challenge mod?

Old looking it aint.
Where is the patch? Also, has anybody figured out a way to hack the field
of view so it isn't letterboxed?
The GPLEA upgrades make a big difference. Kudos to those guys.

Car updates here: http://gplea.racesimcentral.com/
Some cars have several update options (eg Lotus 43 & 49). You can only
use one at a time, but each pack contains various options for looks (eg
engine cover on the Eagle) or to improve framerate on older systems (2D
wheels etc).
I use a Gf4200 and can just about run with all GPLEA cars & high-res
textures, YMMV.
For removing the letterbox there are some options but no really simple
options. One solution would be to experiment with Guru's updated
rasterisers:

They offer various screen resolutions not available as standard. I use
one of these to run at 1400x1050 but there are widescreen & 'tall'
options too IIRC.
The other solution is slightly easier: live with it ;-)

I am a sucker for the open wheel***pits with real gauges, steering wheels
and gear levers rather than LCD displays, yokes and paddles of modern day
sims such that I find GPL to be the best looking sim right now. The***pits
in the F1C mods don't come close IMHO.

Personally I find F1C and the mods look great as screenshots but don't do
much for me in game. Just my preference.
