Motocross Madness 2 Lockup!

System Specs:
PIII 500 mhz
256 mb PC100 Ram
Intergraph Intense 3D 100 (Rendition Verite - only used for 2D and Indycar
2/SODA)
2 Canopus Pure 3D II's in SLI (Voodoo 2)
Diamond MX 300 A3D 2.0 Sound Card
13.0 gb Maxtor hard drive (7 gb free)
MS Sidewider Freestyle Pro USB on ID Controller 1
Windows 98 SE
Direct X 7.0a
3DFX Voodoo2 Windows 9x Drivers - Version 3.02.02 (Updated January 27, 2000)
Aureal A3D Vortex 2 Version 4.06.2048. (Last updated 2/17/00)

I just picked up Motocross Madness 2 from EB, however, after doing Typical
install(593.5mb) and starting the game, I get the following message:
"Motocross Madness 2 has detected a change in your game, video hardware, or
driver installation. We must now test your hardware/driver."
After clicking "Ok", the screen goes black and then shows a graphic that
says "Partial Bit Test" in the top left corner of the screen. I can move my
mouse cursor, but it does not do anything and the machine has to be reset,
as ALT-TAB or CTRL-ALT-DEL cause no response.

The readme document says nothing about these specific messages and basically
says the usual "check to make sure your drivers are most up to date". I have
un-installed and re-installed with both the most recent 3DFX Voodoo 2
Reference drivers and the last official Canopus Pure 3D II drivers, but I
get the same message each time. Of course, all my other games work fine
(GPL, F1 2000, Nascar 3, NFS:PU, SCGT, Superbike 2000, etc.)

Anyone else having similar problems or have any ideas as to a solution. If I
am unable to get this working soon, it will go back to the store. Too bad,
as Motocross Madness original is a fun diversion(and it actually works on my
machine). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The only driver you didn't mention is your A3D drivers. You should have
version 3.12, which you can get at
http://downloads.aureal.com/pub/Public/Drivers/A3D/a3ddrivers312.exe

Oh and also make sure your Sidewinder drivers are up to date.

Motocross Madness 2 Lockup!

I think it's your Rendition card, even though you're not using it for
the game. I had the exact same symptoms in Motocross Madness (1).
Updating my Rendition card's drivers to the most recent RRedline
drivers solved my problem.

This one stumped me for a while.
I just picked up MCM2, and suggest you don't give up. The game is
super.
