I sent e-mail to Adam at Papyrus and he told me NO patch was in planned in
the future for save race feature..this was my reply...if you want it, we
are going to have to make some noise to get it...

Adam,
I appreciate your reply and your honesty....but I am truly devastated by
this. I feel that this was a potential 5 star effort that now, although it
will be highly praised by all computer game magazine reviews, will also be
scathingly criticized by the same for the lack of what I feel is a
CRITICAL feature. All the car testing, tweaking of setups, fuel and
pitstop strategys, etc.,etc, are really pointless if you are not going to
run an ENTIRE race. After all, how many pitstops do you even MAKE in a 30%
race? Keep in mind also Adam the INEVITABLE times (assuming now that we
purists try to set aside 3-4 hours to run a 100% race) when the doorbell
rings, the baby cries, a pipe bursts in your cellar!?....that you must
leave a race in progress. How frustrating it will be after we have run 160
of 188 laps at Dega only to realize that all that time, focus, thrills and
spills of the race, pit and refueling strategies, etc.,etc. are now all in
vain because we have to start the ENTIRE race all over again! This can
happen at ANY race length setting. I agree that the save feature in
Nascar1 was not perfect, but it was surely better than nothing. It did not
save the game in the exact progress you were in and when you came back you
started back under yellow..but I personally got around this by waiting
until a yellow flag came out to save the game.

I have to echo these sentiments... If you've got 3-4 hours for a whole
race, then you don't have a life. I happen to have one, and I'm lucky to
get an hour at a time for games. GP2 has an ideal save situation, and it
does not detract from gameplay.

There are no other realistic simulations, racing or otherwise, that do not
take into account the player's real-life demands and allow for exit/entry.

Without this option, I'll go back to Nascar 1.... the extra gew-gaws and
slightly improved frame rate are worthless if I can only race a 10-25%
race.

Did he say why not?

This is a VERY serious flaw.

I think I'll write to Adam just as soon as Rusty Wallace writes Bill France
jr.
about a race save feature. This is SIM racing is it not?

Key on the word sim here.

But no, you're right.  Quick race?  What the heck is that?  Not in Nascar!
Gotta run full season, or practice.  No quick races in the real world.
Ability to handicap the other drivers?  FOUL!!!  Not in the real world.
And what the heck is this Damage Off crap?  Again, not in the real world
either.  And let's not forget those swervin' Irvins out there who are sure
to be penalized a couple of races, or even black flaged for rough racing!
Haven't seen that in Nascar1/2 or Indy 1/2.  How do you want it?  Real, or
simulated?  Evidently we can't have it both ways.  If you are going to make
the game 'user friendly', then let's opt for some some user friendly
options.

Let those of us who wish to save a game do so.  The rest of you just set it
to ' Real World ' and leave those of us with other interests in life be.,

This is probably the first time in software history that a development team
removes a standard feature.  Com'on guys give us a patch to put the save
game feature back where it belongs.
