I want to hear from you all about your great AI moments from N99 and
GPL. I do not have these games yet and I hope to get them along with a
new cpu next week. So tell this sad guy sitting here some of your
favorite AI moments in either/both games and tide me over until next
week when I will be able to create my own.

Hmmm, great AI moments with NR99 Huh?

Lemme think.

Well how's about after taking the green flag then suddenly the AI comes to
a grinding halt going into the first turn! And somehow you were left out in
the dark but all the other cars know to slow down and you run it up the
rear of the guy in front of you!
Now that's alway a doozie!

Or try pulling into your pit stall a little to fast and bumping the car in
front of you and watch that booger go! He'll bounce off the outside pit
wall 30 times or more before flying back out on the track and heading back
for more!

You ever seen a car shoot out of the pits, and go directly through the pit
wall like a ghost? Yep, it happens.

Another neat AI pit trick is when you pull into your pits with your
rear-end even slightly farther out than your front end (your still in the
box mind you) all the cars pitting behind you stop and wait for you to
finish whilst your spotter is proclaiming "cars are everywhere on the
frontstretch". Then you go on your merry way and all those cars stacked up
and waiting start up and head to their pits!

Tune in for more "TRULY GREAT AI MOMENTS IN PAPY'S NR99!

For Pete's sake, take the damn thing back already- Sierra has a 30-day
guarantee. Or write your own AI and let us all know when it's ready- I'm
sure it will be much better. Until then, play (yes I said 'play) the NASCAR
Revolution demo and let us know how many things are wrong with it.....

Last night I was racing in Mexico when near the end of the race Jim Clark
had spun out for some reason. I came round the corner when he was just about
to re-enter the track...now, in any other sim I would have stomped on the
brakes as hard as possible knowing that he would try to get back on the
track regardless the fact that it wasn't clear, but here I could blast by
knowing he'd wait for me. Great.

You'll love this sim.

I have no idea where you are coming from, or where you are going to,
but isn't this all a tiny bit pointless?

NR99 is an update of N2 which is now over 2 years old. I don't
remember the dates but if Doom99 was released which featured the Doom1
engine with a few extra, would you (or anyone) moan about the way you
can't look up and down, can't stand on a bridge and then walk under
it, that the baddies are 2d polgons and not texture mapped sprites
etc.etc.etc.etc.etc. It's all very yawnsome stuff matey..

Take it back if you were thinking NR99 to be the pinacle of Papy's
achievements and buy GPL. Then post here as "PapySUX" explaining how
the AI system leaves a lot to be desired, I doubt you'll be able to.

FYI, I think the AI system used up until N2 was barely changed from
the days of ICR1, and maybe not that much different from Indy500. In
ICR1, you had 50% road courses, and I don't think that AI system had
much hope in simulating close wheel-to-wheel stock car action on short
ovals as well as it turned out to do.

I expect that any further posts by you will soon be ignored. They are
irrelevant points, just looking to get some people to give you some
attention. I am all for posting my ideas on how Papy can improve
aspects of their sims, or to point out problems, as I am led to
believe that important eyes will read these words. Your angle is
valid, but these points have long since been gone over, GPL IS LIVING
PROOF!

If you are trying to make the point that you think Papy (or Sierra)
are just cashing in by producing a spin-off to increase sales, and
hence a "new" game should not have "old" problems, then you may well
have a strong argument. I would disagree tho as I have heard that
N1999 has enough new features to not just be considered a spin off,
just so happens the things that bother you so are in no better shape
than with N2 in 1996, when the AI was arguably still the best overall
in any sim.

Thanks...

Racing Surtees at the Glen (all right, I'm not the fastest guy
out there) he outbrakes me into the Outer Loop, but slides a little (2
car widths) wide.  I go for the gap and lead out of the turn.  Next
lap I slide wide, he sticks the nose in, but I hang on on the outside
and lead out onto the back straight again.

Of course, going into Big Bend I tick the curb and put the
Lotus in the weeds.  Hint:  Get the Coventry setup from Alison Hines
and use it until you're about 2-3 seconds off the Lotii.  It actually
will forgive a mistake.
