So have compared replays with Spygirl or GPLDump? That should help a
lot.

Yep, I've used GPLDump, but I don't have the new SpyGirl yet.

GPL SpyGirl is more than worth the download time!!  Along with that,
I've found another valuable analysis tool out there, the GPL Track
Computer.  Check it out.  It's available at http://members.home.net/gpl
It does an excellent job of showing you where & by how much you are
losing time.  Then go to your merged replay in SpyGirl & get a little
further insight.

Wave to me in your mirrors as you pass!

I know that it sounds really hard and maybe you need lots of practice
laps, but I think it is possible. I did about 15 or 20 laps already and
at least I know when there is a tricky turn ahead. this does not mean
you could remember every single turn, but knowing the sections and what
is ahead is possible and it is nescessary! if you don't know what is
lying behind the next hump: brake early!

Hmm that's not so hard and since I'm at work with nothing better to do,
I could try writing here from memory how I drive the ring :-)

I've only driven 8:19 on the ring with the lotus, so these are not
instructions how to drive it.

Coming down the main straight in 5th gear, past the pit complex,
taking a big breath, I start braking for the lefthander T1 when the
groove starts to turn darker shifting all the way down to 1st
gear. Wroom T1, turns into long righthander T2, which opens up on the
other 'main straight'.. I'm shifting up all the way to 5th and then
I'll need to brake hard for the left hander.. then a quick dash to the
hump, apply some brakes.. shift to 1st gear for the left hander..  gas
gas... 2nd, 3rd.. right hander.. brakes.. 2nd .. left hander..
gaaas... 3rd gear.. slight left.. start braking.. 2nd.. 1st..  left
hander.. quick acceleration to the right hander.. then left small
straight.. right.. left.. a bit longer straight.. up to 2nd then
braking to 1st gear.. take right.. turn down left .. start
accelerating.. 2nd.. 3rd.. shift to 4th just when going over the
bridge.. make the car steady and prepare for the flugplatz jump..
WHEEE!!!.. squeeeekk... tap the brakes.. shift to 3rd.. bastaad right
hander.. small straight.. another righthander.. then a sloping
lefthander.. all the way shifting up to 5th gear.. road makes small
squirms.. just follow.. coming to a slight jump.. ease the throttle a
bit.. shift to 4th .. 3rd.. take the lefthander.. start braking for
the hard right.. under the bridge.. 3rd.. 4th.. 5th.. going downhill
trying to stay on the tarmac.. at the bottom.. shift to 4th.. going
uphill.. shift to 3rd.. take the lefthander and give a little more
gas.. brake and shift to 2nd.. turn right..  1st.. take the two lefts
as one curve.. turn hard right.. startaccelerating.. 2nd..3rd.. 4th..
when a dark groove starts to form on the right side.. start braking..
3rd.. car always slides on this lefthander.. quick acceleration out of
it.. then brake all the way to 1st and turn left.. quick accel..
2nd.. over the hump..  start thinking about braking.. brake..
turn right to Kallenhard..  accel up to 3rd while turning left..
brake.. 2nd.. take the lefthander .. accel up to 3rd.. brakes..
take the two righthanders easyyy...  gas GaS GAS!.. aagh.. braking
marker.. 2nd.. take the right hander brakes.. 1st.. turn left to the
bridge.. gas gas.. turn right. 2nd .. 3rd.. road turns slightly left..
then a small drop.. start braking up to 2nd gear.. turns left all the
time.. over the second bridge then up the hill.. brakes 1st.. turn right
to Bergwerk.. up the hill start accel.. 2nd. 3rd.. 4th.. over the hump
a blind curve to left..  brake after the hump a bit and turn left..
start braking before the groove to the righthander down to 2nd .. gas
gaaaaass.. 3rd.. 4th..  road turns left all the time.. stay near the
inside.. small hump..  careful not to unsettle the car.. left left..
tap on the brakes.. left.. quick accel.. right.. shift up to 5th..
wromrwrom.. small hump.. after that I have to slow down a bit for the
right hander.. shifting down to 3rd before entering.. then a quick
sweeping left.. gaaas.. small straight.. have to brake before turning
left.. trying to stay on the tarmac while accelerating out of it.. a
longer straight with a hump at the end.. brake slightly so that I can
stay on the road which turns right after the hump.. accelerate.. start
braking for the long righthander.. shifting all the way to 1st.. in the
righthander shift to 2nd and accel out of it shifting to 3rd.. going
straight at the famous tree in the carousell entry.. start braking when
the groove darkens.. shift down to 1st.. enter carousell.. wromwrom..
keep on the concrete.. accel out of it.. 2nd.. quick right.. 3rd..
under the adverti***t-bridge.. 4th.. brake .. 3rd.. turn
left.. slides..  gas gaaas.. brake.. 2nd.. left.. gas.. right.. brake
over the hump.. right..

huh now I have to think how it goes.. this is probably where I lose most
of the time..

small straight.. turns left at the end.. then to the
right.. downhill..  another right.. then a really small straight and
turns left while being totally off camber and going down at the same
time.. and a hard right over a small hump down to a bridge.. quick
brakes.. turns right .. gas.. 3rd.. brakes.. need to slow down quite a
lot or slides off the lefthander... then another right and a small
straight.. which ends into a big drop.. turning left.. right and a
hump.. braking to 2nd..  right.. wroom.. left.. small straight
.. another big drop.. out of the woods.. road squirms quite a
lot.. accelerating up to 4th gear before braking for the right hander
that leads over a bridge.. quick accell then brakes 1st.. over the
hill.. rear gets very light.. accell to 2nd.. maybe 3rd.. start
braking for the small caroussell.. down to 1st.. enter
caroussell.. wrooom.. accel out... 2nd ..3rd.. brake for the small
hill.. down to 2nd.. take it easy.. start accelerating to 3rd.. while
turning right to the main straight.. 4th.. 5th.. breathe out.. remeber
to lift the throttle a bit at the jump.. keeping to the left side of
the straight.. nearing the bridge.. lift a bit under the bridge taking
the left turn heavily on the inside line.. floor it.. another long
straight.. turns left a bit.. shift down to 4th at that turn while
braking.. right.. then steady the car and shift down to 1st before
turning left into the chicane..longish right.. left.. accelerate out
of it in 2nd.. up to 4th or 5th before the finish line.. take another
big breath and do it all over again.
