Someone was wondering how the speeds this year at IMS would be, if everyone was at
the Indy 500. The speeds would be MUCH lower. CART drivers are already complaining
about the US 500 speeds, so they probably would be complaining about the Indy 500
speeds. Doing +235 mph laps is unecessary. I don't think that the Indy 500 would
loose its popularity if the speeds would be lowered down to 200 to 210 mph. Probably,
part of the reason CART drivers aren't racing at Indy this year are the high speeds.
I don't know if this comparison is right, but look at Talladega and NASCAR. NASCAR
stock cars are much heavier than IndyCars, but go a lot slower. Remember what
happened at the last Talladega race just a few weeks ago? Now look at IndyCars at
Indy. Lighter but faster. Something could seriously go wrong. I wouldn't want to be
in Tony George's shoes when another driver dies to these absurd speeds, and maybe the
other drivers get pissed off at Tony for that. Actually, I don't want to be in Tony
George's shoes at all. I can't stand him.
