bodged-together ex-RC transmitter joystick,
I've finally acquired a wheel and pedals -
an Interact V3, which I've managed to fix to
my desk at a far less truck-like angle than
was originally intended.
Unfortunately, I seem to have lost all ability
to drive with it. In particular, little wriggles
from the back end, which previously I'd have
caught with a quick flick of my right thumb,
now turn into a losing fight against a massive
fishtail. Opposite lock help (which I ran before)
doesn't seem to help - it's barely any worse
without it. My previous ability to hold a 1500bhp
car (just occasionally, for fun) in a permanent
sideways powerslide has totally vanished, even
with the standard 780bhp.
I'm also finding it difficult to get my turn-in right,
especially in changes of direction, and my lap-
times have suffered hugely (though it's put some
challenge back...)
I'm wondering if part of the problem is the dead-
band, which wasn't there on my sticks - now
there's a very positive centre on the wheel, but
the actual steering starts suddenly several degrees
after I've eased it off centre, making the end of
the main straight at Imola less than easy.
I'm currently running 16 degrees of lock in the
control menu, with the wheel set to reach that
around 80 degrees off centre (the V3 allows
adjustment on-the-fly, which is nice).
Is this something I'll learn to drive round, or can
I adjust things to improve the situation? Or am
I just forgetting how long it took me to learn to
drive GP2 in the first place?
Comments, experiences or advice welcome
to the ng, please - I'll be checking fairly regularly.
TIA,
Jonny
