HELP: TM Grand Prix Wheel: disable the flaps?

by Torrey Nagl » Thu, 14 Aug 1997 04:00:00

Howdy; I have a question about the TM Grand Prix wheel. I am considering
purchasing one, but I already own a set of CH Pedals, which I like very
much. Is it possible to disable the spring loaded flaps on this wheel
assembly and use my pedals with the wheel? Any info would be greatly
appreciated. Much thanx...

It is possible to use the CH pedals with this unit.  You do not need to
disable the flaps on the wheel.

The GP wheel shouldn't conflict with your pedals.  The
pedals should be on the joystick-2 horizontal axis, while
the GP wheel paddles are on the joystick-1 vertical axis.
Just configure your acceleration and braking to use the
same axis that your pedals are on.

BTW, has anyone figured out a way to make GP2 use the
GP wheel paddles for shifting?

Thanks,

I have done exactly what you want to do and it works fine.  The paddles
(flaps) are on Joystick 1's Y axis, while the pedals are Joystick 2's X
and Y axis.  Simply set up the sim to use the latter for accelerator and
brake.

As a nice side effect, you can tell the sim to use the paddles for
shifting: Joystick 1, Y axis, Up, for downshift, and Joystick 1, Y axis,
Down, for upshift.  This will make the car upshift when you flick the
right paddle, and downshift when you flick the left one.  This works
great in ICR2.  I think it will work in GP2 as well, and if it does it
would be very realistic.

Alison,

I tried this with GP2, but cod not get it too work.  The program errors with
not enough range to calibrate.  Works fine with ICR2, but I much prefer to
drive GP2.  Although I'm becoming very adapt at using my ring and pinkie
fingers for brake and throttle, the peddles would complete what I think would
be the ultimate reasonably-priced control combo.
