Grand Prix Legends slides to Summer '98?

by Jeff Vince » Wed, 19 Nov 1997 04:00:00

I got the BGN Track Pack yesterday and, viewing the Papyrus
promotional movie, noted that the date for GPL seems to have slid from
Spring '98 to Summer '98.  Has anyone else heard any confirmation of
this dire news? (the Sierra web site still says spring)  :(

Before you send me UCE, I know what you're thinking...  Did he complain
to five or six postmasters last month?  Now, you must ask yourself one
question: "Do I feel lucky?"  Well, do you, punk?

Jeff,

If Sierra's other websites are inidicators - the news isn't good.  Their
Front Page Sports Skiing website is saying a Demo in August ... A
Release in November.  The demo never came and the release is pushed back
probably until 1998 ...  They are SLOW to update it ..

Jeff Vincent enlightened the world with this pearl of wisdom...

That's definitely true. I'm fairly certain it may even be a fall release.

Some folks from Papyrus recently visited our offices to demo the game for
us. It's the second time I got to see it -- Dave Kaemmer and Matt Sentell
let me take it for a spin about 6-8 months ago.

In the recent demo, I got to drive around the Nurburging (sic?).
Previously they only had the new physics engine running in the ICR2
3D engine at Laguna Seca.

The physics look impressive -- you can catch air and even flip your car.
The new view works well too (you can see it in the video).

Serious HP + no wings + narrow treaded tires = lots of four-wheel
drifts... the people that drove these cars were insane. God love 'em...

Add no security cell and just a few inches between your body and anything
that might have hit your car and extremely thin helmets and the picture
is complete... Really scary!
