The FIA are just brain-dead...it's starting to become obvious. :(

I <yawn> in your general direction.

You assume they had brains to begin with! ;)

According to interviews he's not working "alone" anymore. There's
supposedly a large team behind GP4. Why the hell it's taken this
long to finish is totally beyond me. GP1 -> GP2 was a huge leap,
no doubt. GP2 -> GP3 was a minor upgrade, mainly in graphics.
GP3 -> GP4 has added animated pit crews, some lame radio
voices, and practically nothing else. And to top it all off the graphics
are at best marginally better than GP3, yet they demand twice the
machine. He would've been better off spending a few weeks
patching away the bugs (invisible walls etc) in GP3 and gone on
to make GP4 a console-only title.

You forget:
- moving 3D***pit
- tracks with camber
- force feedback
- cc improvements (2000 season)
- physics (differential - 2000 season)
- very good wet weather simulation
- improved replays (2000 season)
- debris collisions (2000 season)

I think most of the GP4 effort went to the Xbox version. At least it tied
the pc developpers from a certain point. We pc owners were unlucky it seems.
I have yet to try it out though. If GP4 compares the same to its reviews
here as GP3 does, I might still like it :)

Except that a game of this low quality would never sell on consoles.
On PCs there seems to be some wierd Crammond religious following who
buy up whatever he spews out.

The only reason I play GP4 as opposed to GP3 is that it works properly in
XP. I must admit my experience with the sense of speed is the opposite
to that of everybody else in here. I get more of a sense of high speed in
GP4 than GP3. Guess I'm odd.

"Excuse me, this is 2002 Geoff.  Have you heard that nobody since the past 5
years has ever written any line of assembler code in the game industry,
except you?"

assembly code is dramatically slower than code optimized by a modern C
compiler?"

Modern C optimizers are extremely sophisticated. In most cases it can
outperform hand-written assembly code. As just one example, an
optimizer will organize code and data to make the most efficient use
of specific hardware characteristics. You just can't do that by hand.
