CMR 2 Confirmed

Hello,
I recently recieved an e-mail from the Rallies Editor of Motoring News
maazine. As his job title suggests, he works amongst the 'Rallying'
community. He was speaking on the phone to Nicky Grist (Nicky is a
coloumnist for MN magazine) and Nicky has confirmed that CMR 2 is set for an
Autumn release.
Good news!

Further news can be found at the CMR 'Zone' :

LOL that's typical Codemasters..

It's not even release in NAmerica than they are already planning on the
sequel.  The same happened for TOCA, where it was announced that the sequel
would happen before it was out on the market in NAmerica.

And they don't understand yet that Wheel units use more than 2axis now...
Anybody remember when a Codemaster employee asked us what should be
implemented in future sims (or their arcade racing game.. IMHO).  The BIG
request was for a better controller I/O (especially about more than 2 axis),
but they still haven't learned a clue with CMR and probably Toca2 from all
what I heard.

So ANOTHER time Codemasters if your hearing presently :

"MOST OF THE WHEELS NOW HAVE MORE THAN 2 AXIS"

It is typical codemasters- and why they are a success.

For those who don't know, codies are a tiny publishing and development concern
in the UK- one of the only true indie labels left- and they manage time and
time again to produced and market hit titles.

Their formula is pretty consitent- Accent on enjoyment arcade style fun in
simulation style ***, with important marketing tie-ins.

Neither TOCA or Colin McRae on these strengths are going to work in the US
market- for obviosu reason's. Who has heard of either there?

Going into the US would invlove a huge ship out- with great titles, but with
concepts (rallying? touring cars?) that has no market awareness in the US.

It's a recipe for disaster- why would you do it?

Kudo's for codemaster's doign what they do- understanding the market very
well, and blowing away the big boys as a label with so few releases a year-
but so many hits.

Good point.  But after 3titles they still haven't understood a basic thing
about controller inputs even if they tried to do some feedback here about
the problems with their sims. And it was the primary problem we had.  I just
feel cheated somehow.. as I would like to enjoy those titles.

Yes and I feel they do quite an excellent job. I even enjoyed their Micro
Machines series.

Good point, but is it nessecary to focus on the marketing when they can't
even promess us, the simracers in this newsgroup about something as simple
as making available controller outputs on Joystick2.  It's not that hard no
?

Hmmm who says US here ? Im talking about North America. You know.. Canada ?
Quebec ? Rallye racing is very popular here, and Toca is quite a good hit
here (from a software shop manager that I know).

That's false... Just send the Gold CD here and print it. No need to ship the
product over-sea.

Err, if it's a disaster, why will they release it here soon ? Soon or late,
WHAT is the difference these days of global market ? There's no excuse for a
late shipping. There's no translation needed, no new manual.  The only thing
I can see is that they ship it with the patch already included, but that
doesn't equal a 6month delay.  Same goes for Ubisoft, with MGPRS2.

Good point.  Every company starts that way.

Hmm... "tiny publishing and development concern". I'd beg to differ. Okay so
they're not as big as EA or Activision but I'd say that the number of high
revenue titles they have released spread over many formats classes them as a
major player in Europe. America is a gap but that will be filled before too
long.

I agree with the rest. They centre on "console" *** for PC and other
platforms but with sufficient depth to help PC owners feel a little happier.
They are the fastest growing (in terms of revenue) developer in Europe at the
moment.
