Thrustmaster T2 & Windows95 - Is it possible?

by Jo » Thu, 03 Apr 1997 04:00:00

Has ANYONE gotten the Thrustmaster T2 wheel to work properly in a
Win95 game? It will not work (works fine with all DOS games). I've
tried every possible configuration in the Win95 joystick calibration -
plain joystick, custom joystick, custom joystick with "race car
controller" picked, etc. Nothing works. I DO have the "single joystick
adapter" thingie plugged in.

The most frustrating thing is that the wheel does calibrate correctly
under Win95. I click on "Test..." and I can move the crosshair around
and so on. But when I go into any Win95 game (tried both Monster Truck
Madness and Interstate 76) the wheel just will NOT work - it "leans"
to the right and the gas/brake pedals don't work at all. The wheel
buttons work but that's all that does.

There must be a way to make this work. I know Win95 is lame but it
can't believe it doesn't support steering wheels at all. Please HELP!

My T2 works with win95 and Monster Truck Madness, so it is possible, but
unfortunately I don't know of anything that would cause the problems you
are experiencing.

Thanks, guys. I got a dedicated Thrustmaster ACM game card and now it
works fine - Win95 didn't like my integrated soundcard gameport.

Hmmm, My T2 works fine in Windows 95. I know th way I have it setup is
as custom "race car" controller. It functions properly in both MTM and
I76. I'm sure you've tried it, but you could try the configure
controls in I76 and it will read the Joy1 inputs when you redefine the
controls, you know, "press key or move joystick". This would visually
confirm whether a certain axes was kaput, or if it's just not
centered, etc. Another component to my setup is an ACM gamecard, with
the proper driver in device manager. It's not the easiest to set up
right in Win 95, but once configured it works great in everything I've
tried so far. Let me know if you need any more info from me.

I don't know about Joe, but I'd appreciate the Win95 driver you
mention. I've got an ACM, but no driver diskette. Does it make all the
difference ? I'm stuggling with Win95 not recognising my T1.

I've got the ACM and the only disk that came with it was the
'calibration program'...no drivers. Win95 had the file(s) it needed.
(Windows95a) I just had to select the game card in the 'add new
hardware' option and click OK.

Windows saw my T2 before but didn't want to calibrate it altogether
accurate. With the ACM (and running the TM program and adjusting speed)
it shows proper calibration.

I 'think' the program is TMScope...It was available for DL at
Thrustmaster if you didn't get it with your card.

Good Luck,
Alan

The driver comes with Win95. If you "Add hardware" and go to "Sound,
Video, and Game Controllers" there is only one entry for Thrustmaster,
and that's "ACM Gamecard". I don't really know if there's any
difference between this driver and the standard "Microsoft Gameport",
I bet the guys at TM could tell you, they're VERY helpful. I was just
trying to give all the details of my setup for comparison, which also
include the little adapter that came with my T2. If you need explicit
instructions for how to go about installing the ACM with a PnP
gameport, I have a very clear explanation from one of the TM tech
guys. They have a faq for this on thier web site also
(http://www.thrustmaster.com/support/pnp.htm).
