TV repeat: Games developer goes real racing in "Faking It"...

The above show which has a complete moron get offered the chance to
see if he can fake being a real racing driver in front of a panel of
experts is repeated tonight on E4.

Watch in horror as the c*nt completely squanders an opportunity most
of us would sell family members for, and makes us sim-racers look like
complete t!ts in the process.

He thinks he knows better than the instructors because he's played
"realistic" driving games...  Oh dear, oh dear.

Regards,

Mark

I wont be watching. They picked a complete tosser to do it.

It pisses me off that he totally wasted what ammounted to 10K+'s worth of
training that ANYONE here would have put kidney's on ebay for.

OH its so embarassing. Why on earth did they get such an idiotic console
jockey to do it. I mean the guy has never used anything but his thumbs to
drive before this :)
If they had chosen a real sim racer i think they would have impressed a lot
of ppl

I'm not convinced a sim racer would have done much better or worse in the
car, but they'd have been a lot less arrogant, and would probably have
fitted into the crowd better.

They'd probably have done better just because they'd appreciate the
instructors - listen to them - and do what they said - instead of ignoring
them and doing whatever they wanted

I AM convinced a real sim racer would have done better. This guy clearly has
no talent in his whole body..whereas i think ppl who are -50 or better(as an
example)do have talent. Just look at the highly ranked gplers who race for
real..most of them do much better than average

Too bad I don't get E4 overhere, but I was curious and looked it up on the
web. Found a couple of sites:

Some comments from the guy (Phil Deane) himself:
http://www.channel4.com/entertainment/tv/microsites/F/fakingit/where/

A word from his mentor (Duncan Vercoe):

Although I didn't see the show, I think I get the idea :-)  It's a shame.

With respect Dan, your level of ability is the exception rather than the
rule ;-)
I'm -45 on GPLRank but I'm old & unfit. That's why I race online rather than
in RL really. That and the money ;-)

There's alot less to fear in a sim race than RL racing, and I think that if
you could cherry pick the right sim racer (young, fairly fit, total lack of
fear) they'd do well.

But the only advantage sim-racing would give is knowledge, and that can be a
severe handicap when someone is trying to teach you how to behave and react.
It's already programmed in.

As I said, I'm not convinced sim-racing makes you drive a real race car any
quicker, that's just natural ability and experience. I think a sim racer
would have been more convincing to the Judges though.

What galls me most is that the others I've seen in this series seem
like genuine attempts at fooling pros - be it Show Jumping, DJ-ing, or
whatever.  IMO, video games being part of the subject and having such
a geeky rep, the makers went out of their way to take the piss.  Can't
think of any other reason they went with this ***.

I wouldn't have wanted to be the guy that the ***er actually overtook
in the race!

"But I think that I'm a good listener. "

Oh cripes.  If anything, he *refused* to listen to *anything* he was told.
And I seem to remember the barriers went right up when he met the coach
who's job it was to get him to walk, talk and act like a successful race
driver.  He would have *none* of it.

If you never caught it first time around and you've got E4, you've gotta
check it out.

IMO a sim-racer would undoubtedly have done better. Apart from the fact of
understanding lines, balancing the car ala GPL etc, the main area he lost
out on was the utter bollocks he spouted under questioning. When asked about
Schumacher's talent and how he was different a few remarks on understanding
of slip angles, commitment, politics, desire etc would have got him off the
hook instantly, and is something any GPL jockey could answer easily.

"I have already approached three companies in Lincoln, but they all are
waiting to see the programme before they commit."

This guy is actually considering going further in racing?  Hah!
